Foscam IP Camera Plugin

Glad to know the solution worked.

I removed my mostly working Foscam Cameras and was readding them to get motion detection working. My vera IP address had changed since I first installed the plugins. I can remove the cameras fine, but when I try to put them back I get an ‘undefined’ device.

After I add the IP camera with the snapshot.cgi URL and specify Foscam and the type I get a HTTP Basic Auth dialog for the camera that doesn’t accept my username and password. I cancel that, complete the camera addition and wind up with ‘undefined’.

I’ve tried removing and reinstalling the plugin and also rebooting.

Anyone have any ideas?

Got the motion sensor also to work. Mainly followed this:

The plugin will only give you PTZ and motion detection support, it won’t make your cameras work.

If your cameras are connected to the network using an Ethernet cable, you can unplug and re-plug the cable from the cameras. Vera should see them and add them automatically. If this doesn’t work, you have to add the cameras manually.

After you added the cameras and they work properly, you can proceed to install the plugin using the instructions here: VistaCam PT&HD IP Cameras

Mcvflorim,

if I buy Dlink cameras, can I record the images on micasaverde.com servers ?
how many space I will have for this ?

thanks …

@Piwtorak

You can archive images on our servers with any camera that works with Vera. The maximum space is 1 Gigabyte per camera.

that’s good, thanks mcvflorin.

I guess I didn’t explain my situation very well. My cameras have worked for a while. I’ve been using them with MiOS since you had to upload the XML and restart luup. If you wanted to reverse the controls you had to edit the code. My cameras themselves work great. I can login and reach them over the network just fine.

My problem arose when I was trying to redo them in MiOS to get the http alert from the cameras set to the right IP address. Since my vera IP had changed after I had installed the camera plugin.

Perhaps there is a procedure to remove the plugin that is more in depth than the uninstall in the UI? Something that can be done after I ssh in to the unit?

I still find it strange that from within MiOS I’m given a basic auth dialog when trying to add the camera. Especially since my browser has the camera credentials cached from me viewing it directly when I try and set things up with the plugin.

When you uninstall a plugin, the devices it created are removed, but the files remain. However, unused files are ignored by MiOS, so removing them would make no difference. The plugin files are in /etc/cmh-ludl, if you really want to delete them.

I think the reason you were given the auth dialog is that when you’re in the same network as the camera, MiOS just forwards the camera port, so it’s like you are directly connecting to the camera. Did you put the username and password in the camera’s Settings tab?

@mcvflorin

I would put in my correct credentials, but the dialog would never go away.

The device I would wind up with barely had any information in it.

I have however gotten them to work again. I uninstalled the plugin and added the cameras back without first installing the plugin. Letting the unit install the plugin for me after i pick Foscam Camera for my camera got rid of the basic auth prompt and things also now work.

I can try to test other things if you are curious as to the odd behaviors I was seeing. My cameras are working again though, strange though the process may be.

Thanks for the assistance.

I recently added two new FI8910W’s and followed the steps here: VistaCam PT&HD IP Cameras

Everything is added fine, but when lua engine restarted, I get these errors for the two new cameras:
Foscam Camera : Failed to configure camera.
Foscam Camera : Failed to configure camera.

Any thoughts?

UI5 1.5.408 Vera3

This means that either the camera IP/URL is wrong, or the camera username or password are wrong. Please check those parameters again.

Hey thanks for the reply, I am able to get video and stills from the cameras in the UI… here’s a screenshot: http://zazon.tinygrab.com/fbWa

I’ll double check the URLs and credentials… Any other thoughts? If the URLs / credentials were incorrect, I wouldn’t be getting a feed right?

No, I guess not. You could try configuring the camera manually, by putting this URL in the browser:
[tt]http://CAMERA_IP/set_alarm.cgi?motion_armed=1&http=1&http_url=http%3A%2F%2FVERA_IP_ADDRESS%2Fport_3480%2Fdata_request%3Fid%3Dlr_foscam_tripped%26sensor_id%3DMOTION_SENSOR_ID&user=USER_NAME&pwd=PASSWORD[/tt]

You must replace the text in blue with the actual values.

That did it, needed admin credentials on the account im using (I only had operator privileges set on that account. Thanks!

See orange below…

It’s possible to implement this, but Bypass and Arm have always been only for Vera devices and not for the real (physical) devices, so I won’t change this.
Don’t know if its been ask before or not but, I’m trying to get my camera (FI8910W) record video clips to my network storage drive with out computer being on, it stores images but not video files, is there a way around to make it store videos as well in to drive that is connected directly to same router as camera?

There is no way that I have been able to find. I think it is a hardware limitation of FI8910W due to a lack of internal storage. I am able to do it with my FI9820W as long as I have an SD card installed. Essentially, the FI9820W records the video locally on the SD card and then tranfers the video file to my network storage drive.

Unfortunately FI8910W don’t have SD card so as I noticed it saves images striate to ether Network drive or FTP I just thought if drive attach to router and always on line there would be a way to store videos on it as well…

I just got a Foscam FI8910W and have been somewhat successful in Vera integration. However, I am still having issues/questions.

My setup is:

[ul][li]Vera2[/li]
[li]Was on UI4, but upgraded to UI5 as part to better facilitate the IP cam[/li]
[li]Installed the Foscam plugin from the app store[/li][/ul]

If I let Vera autodetect the camera, I end up with a “Wintop zCam” on my dashboard. I can force-add the Foscam from the GUI, and then I do end up with a Foscam camera and an associated motion sensor for the Foscam on the dashboard.

Both the Wintop and the Foscam seem to partially work. They will stream for a while over the dashboard, but after some time, the stream drops away. Both Wintop and Foscam have the ability to pan-tilt-zoom. As some have stated on other threads, the Foscam does not have a place to enter the “videostream.cgi” (yet is still streams based on “snapshot.cgi”?) while the Wintop does have the field available.

Moreover, when I try to integrate this with Android Homebuddy, I cannot get the Foscam to stream at all, while the Wintop version does stream to my Android (only when accessing Vera locally though).

There’s a thread on Vera/Foscam/HomeBuddy integration at http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,9583.0.html.

Which is the optimal approach to get local/remote streaming?

I am attaching my dashboard as well as the Wintop and Foscam settings.
