Wow, I’ve read thru this thread and spent most of the day trying to get my Foscam 9803EP to connect with no luck (i’d be happy with just motion detection functionality). I’m not the most tech savvy guy here, but it seems this is an incredibly complex and frustrating task for most of those posting here. This should be a simple. I’m giving up for the moment and hoping someone with a better understanding of the technology can figure it out and share. Meanwhile, all I really need is notifications so I’ll use a spare motion detector for alerts and go back to my Surveillance System software for the video.
Maybe someone here can I help me out.
I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to UI7. I have two Foscam FI8910W cameras which still work fine after the upgrade, but the motion sensors seem to have stopped working on the cams. On the web interface for the cameras the motion detection is enabled and the Vera UI shows the two motion sensor devices as child devices to the parent fiscal devices. Under the camera device > settings > advanced settings > variables the “State” is listed as “2”. I try switching that to “1” but that doesn’t seem to have any effect.
I’m still getting used to the new UI and navigating around. Am I missing something simple to get the motion sensors active again??
For folks having issues with UI7 and Foscam here were my steps:
- Select VistaCam PT from the Add Camera menu
- Next on all wizard steps, select Manually Configure Camera
- Add IP Address ONLY in IP address Field
- Put in Username and Password in the respective fields
- You should see the picture from the camera at this time.
- Go to Advanced Settings, change impl_file to “I_FoscamPTZ.xml”, Go back and Save
- At this time you should be able to Pan and Tilt using the arrows on the live feed from the camera
- If your device controls are opposite to the arrows, go back to Advanced Settings/Variables tab (top of the page)
- Enter 1 on Reverse Pan field (hit tab to move to next field, important to send command), do same for Reverse Tilt field
- Go back and Save
- If the Pan/Tilt stop working, go back and repeat step 8-10, cycling between 0 then 1

the wizard won’t let me add an ip address manually. i have to pick one from the list, but the camera is not on the list. guess the cabled setup is really necessary.
The wizard is not the only way if you know what you are doing. You can add a device under developer options luup files.
i’ll try that in a few days.
the thing is that i need to buy a new IP camera. my FI8918 doesnt add too well, and the motion sensor has never worked at all.
now i am on the verge of buying a new one, which one is most likely to completely work. i mean, which camera is best in combination with vera? i now have not added my current FI8918 but really like to add the new one with all functionality.
i’d like to buy this camera this week, so please advice someone. i know on this vera site there is a support matrix, but i prefer to hear from the people that actually use it.
With the new Vera UI7 interface 1.7.2138 it has been impossible to add the Foscam FI9812 cameras in the way that has been described both in this forum thread or in other forums. While in the older UI7 it gives you an option to manually add a camera from the start, the new interface requires that you wait 6 minutes searching for the camera, then when it finally gives you the option to manually add, that doesnt work either. After entering all the required values it tries to search for the camera and then reports that “Camera Not Detected” and then gives you no option to proceed so you can manually create the entries needed to configure the camera.
I also tried to install plugins for Vista, unistall Vista then install Foscam but that didn’t work either. So this brings me to this post.
I have had to piece together various parts in this forum thread and also information from other forum threads to manually create the device instead. Credit to all the contributors in this and other forums. In the guide below the steps enables me to add the camera with Pan and Tilt capabilities, but I have been unable to figure out the motion sensor. I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction to get motion sensor working also.
This is for Vera UI7 version 1.7.2138
Cameras - Foscam FI9821W V2 & FI9821P
System Firmware Version 1.4.1.10
Application Firmware Version 2.11.1.119_p1
- Upload the foscam device file, json and implementation. I did not create this and credit goes to the original authors.I found the latest implementation from this forum so just do browse thru this forum thread and you should find the files you need.
The files you want to upload are D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.json, D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml, I_Foscam98HD.xml
Go to Apps → Develop apps → Luup files
Drag the files to the Luup file “Upload” box, and then click “done” on each of the files. You only need to do this once.
- Add the Camera as a device
Go to Apps → Develop apps → Create device
In the Create device page enter the following
Device type: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:1
Internal ID: (Blank)
Descrition:
Upnp Device Filename: D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml
Upnp Implementation Filename: I_Foscam98HD.xml
IP Address: <Device IP:Port for example 192.168.1.100:88>
MAC: (Blank)
Room:
Parent Device: (Blank)
Click on “Create device”. Once you do this you will see a window popup with “Success, Device Created”. Click “Ok”
Go to Devices and you should find the camera that you created. However sometimes it may not show. You will have to reboot Vera. To do that do the following.
Settings → Net & Wi-fi → Reboot. You will see. “PLease Wait, Unit is now rebooting. This should take about 5 minutes.” Just reload the Vera browser page and you should see the camera in Devices.
- Now goto Cameras and find the Camera you added. Click on it and it should bring you to the Camera View.
You should not see anything yet at this point. On the top you will find Settings. Do the following
Settings → Advanced
In here under Credentials enter the Username and Password needed to access the camera.
Username:
Password:
Once that is done click on Done at the bottom. It will accept the configuration and kick you back to the Camera View page. Now go to Extra Parameters configuration
Settings → Advanced-> Extra Parameters
You will now see all the parameters you entered earlier. Don’t change anything here. On the top click on the Variables tab. In here enter the following. Check the “switch to input type text” before entering the new value.
URL:/cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=&pwd=
Once you enter new values click outside the text entry box for each entry and you should see “Change Property Command Sent”
Click “Back”, then click “Done”. This will take you back Camera View. The camera view should now load. If it doesn’t load at this point go back into Extra Parameters - Variables and reenter the URL. Sometimes the URL entry doesn’t get accepted the first time. Always make sure you click outside the text box after a new entry.
This has so far been the most reliable way for me to add the Foscam HD cameras. Having the motion sensor work will be great to complete this.
To perform video recording you need to enable MJPEG on the Foscam cameras. To do this open a browser and type in the following URL
http://ip address:port/cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=setSubStreamFormat&format=1&usr=&pwd=
When inputting this URL and pushing “Enter” in your browser, it will return the following result:
<CGI_Result>
0
</CGI_Result>
Once that is done, in Vera GUI under the Camera, select the camera you want to configure.
Settings → Advanced-> Extra Parameters → Variables enter the following
Check the “switch to input type text” before entering the new value.
DirectStreamingURL : http://:/cgi-bin/CGIStream.cgi?cmd=GetMJStream&usr=&pwd=
eg. http://192.168.1.1:80/cgi-bin/CGIStream.cgi?cmd=GetMJStream&usr=admin&pwd=anypassword
Remember to click on the outside of the box and you should see “Change Property Command Sent”
Click the “Back” button and now go to “Live” tab and click on the record button. This should then record a short video and store it in the “Recorded” tab. If the first time the record doesn’t work click on it again and it should work thereafter.
Thank you! It worked for me. However I created the cameras with this link:
http://Vera_Local_IP/port_3480/data_request?id=lu_action&serviceId=urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:HomeAutomationGateway1&action=CreateDevice&deviceType=urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:2&UpnpDevFilename=D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml&Description=test&RoomNum=0&IpAddress=camera_ip&StateVariables=urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:Camera1,URL=/image/jpeg.cgi%0Aurn%3Amicasaverde-com%3AserviceId%3AHaDevice1%2CCommands%3Dcamera_full_screen%2Ccamera_archive_snapshot&Username=user&Password=pass&Reload=1
I was able to add my Foscam FI9821P V2 using the procedure noted above in Reply #448 (Thanks Kentay). The camera now appears under devices in my VeraPlus UI7. PTZ is working, as is snapshot, but video capture is not working. Has anybody been successful in capturing live video with the “record” button on the camera interface?
Thank you. Works just as advertised. Very well written instructions.
will this plugin work for the Foscom 720p and 1080p PoE NVR cameras?
Does this plugin also work in UI7? I am trying to create a motion sensor, but it does not seem to work
