Foscam FI8910W - Filmstrip

Hello All

I upgraded the firmware last night on my Vera 2 to 1.5.408. All lights, locks and thermostat work without me having to do anything. It went very smooth.

HOWEVER, I have a slight problem with my 2 Foscam FI8910W cameras. As I mentioned in one of my other threads, they both work perfectly with the built in webserver AND through iVera. I can see images and move the cameras with no problems.

When I go in to the Vera interface, I can see thumbnails of what the cameras are seeing. I have them both trained on a ceiling fan so that I can actually see movement. I can select each camera and almost always see the larger image. Sometimes I see just the image of the filmstrip but sometimes not - I actually see that the camera is seeing. It is intermittent. What could cause this behavior and more importantly, how do I keep it from ever showing the image of the filmstrip and instead always show me the image that is being captured by the camera?

I did have to manually add each camera and followed the instructions in another thread from J2RED that worked real well.

Once I get this to where it is working all the time, I will then tackle taking images/recording a short loop but want to make sure that this is working before I go further.

Thanks!

are you using the latest version of the Foscam plugin files: 2.2?

Yes, I am using version 2.2. Also:

device type is - urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:1
device file - D_DigitalSecurityCamera1.xml
impl_file - I_FoscamPTZ.xml

and I did add both cameras manually.

Any ideas?

Bump…
I’m having this exact same issue after the upgrade.

Anyone else see this and/or solve it?

+1 I have the same issue but I have 1 cam using foscam plugin and one generic and they both exhibit this fault.

Bump again —

I’ve tried multiple variations this week for settings from several postings on here and nothing seems to allow for a reliable experience with this plugin…

Anyone out there get this working reliably with v 2.2 of the Foscam plugin with UI5 and Vera3? ??? ???

It has nothing to do with the plug-in. The plug-in just adds pan and tilt controls, preset support, and the motion sensor. Viewing the camera is handled completely by Vera’s built-in software.

My opinion is that the video player built into Vera is just doesn’t work very well. To be fair, Vera has never promised to support remote viewing of cameras. Programs like iVera get around the problem by showing sequential still pictures at 2 or 3 frames per second.

If remote viewing is what you want, check out the many great programs for iOS and Andriod.

I use the paid IP Cam Viewer app on my Android (and love it), and I don’t disagree that my problem is unlikely due to the Foscam App either.

I just would like to see UI5/Vera3 be as good as or better than my UI4/Vera2 was in supporting existing devices. I had no problems with my Foscams on my old unit and UI4.

blahhhh, I could just kick myself for upgrading when things were working so well. After 2+ years as a MCV user, you would think I’d have learned my lesson by now!!

oh well. Hope someone at MCV sees this thread and adds it to the to-do list.

As my post before your bump implies…I believe it is a Vera/ui5 bug…not the fault of the foscam plugin.

Installed 4 FI8910W (latest firmware) in the last week and a half. Vera 3 with latest firmware and UI5. Latest version of the Foscam plugin as well.

I’m also seeing the filmstrip on a regular basis. Generally clicking on one of the other tabs and then back on the viewing tab resolves it.

Unsure what the problem is. I have an issue with my Unix server/firewall right now where it won’t forward ports. Time to upgrade to the latest version it seems.

All–

How close is the FI8910W to your router? Are you using IEEE 802.11N? What type of wireless security are you using on your router?

Don

The router I use is my Vera3 with WPA2 protocol. I’m hoping the connection is N as both Vera and the 8910 support it. Unfortunately I’ve not found a way in Vera to show connection speed for attached WiFi Devices. My laptop when tested connected at N.

Distance from Vera
Cam1 10 feet - 1 inside wall
Cam2 15 feet - 1 inside wall
Cam3 30 feet - 2 inside walls
Cam4 25 feet - 2 inside walls

WiFi clients on my DD-WRT Cisco router sitting 4 feet away from Vera connect at N speed upwards from 70 on distances about the same.

I have no access to my attic but as I am planning to have it re-insulated, access may have to be created. In which case I’ll must likely will run cat5 to most of what is now on WiFi. Including the cameras

I don’t think this is a connection issue. I have the same issue but when viewing the camera’s through the built in web server or through LiveCams Pro on my iPhone and iPad the video is fine.
