foscam 8918w issues

Hi, I have got a few issues with my camera can anyone advise

  1. camera seems to change its IP address when booting so sometimes it selects 10.0.03 other times its 10.0.02 ( in australlia)
But the camera IP in the settings in vera is 10.0.0.2…so Ive noticed that sometimes I dont have a pic and was wondering if its because the IP’s dont match

  2. cant seem to set an automatic alarm and record path it just gives me an error messasge like command failled can I set it up to take and record a pic when tripped ( I dont mean thru vera but with the camera direct to my laptop)

  3. I can take a snap manually and save it to my pic folder

  4. preset position of camera doesnt work I can pan and tilt but cant store the setting (on my laptop not thru vera)

  5. how do you access the camera from another computer

  6. can you get an alert from the camera to you iphone if motion is detected (not via vera)

Thanks

I don’t have a Vera yet, but plan on getting the Vera 3 next month. And I got my foscam delivered so i’ll set it up tomorrow.

As far as your problems go

Solution for:

problem 1) You should probably give your foscam static IP addresses. Currently, your letting your router assign it a dynamic address which is the reason why it’s changing from time to time. You can either assign the address on your router on a static table using the MAC address or assign the IP address manually on the camera. What wireless router do you have?

problem 2) as far as I know the forscam can FTP photos to a FTP server. This means that you need to give your laptop a static IP address at home on your private LAN and you’ll need to install some kind of FTP server software on your laptop.

problem 5) Are you referring to be able to access the camera direct from outside your home on someone else’s network? It’s all possible but does require some networking knowledge to be able to set it up. If you want to be able to access it securely, then a VPN network solution will be required.

problem 6) you’ll have to set the mail settings on the camera, either have it email you to a email account that pushes emails to your iPhone (recommend iOS 5 for this) or get the email address of SMS text to your iPhone.

Also recommend you update your foscam to the latest firmware.

If you have any questions just ask me since I’m an IT consultant.

Anyway, I hope this helps a little but yes most of your problems so far just requires a little more networking knowledge.

Thanks for the info

I think I can sort out the IP problem ( its funny but I think I can rtemember reding somewhere in the set up that DHCP is recommended)

Networking sounds complicated to me being unskilled it might be better to leave it running thru vera as I can get pics and alerts that way

Just wondering why I cant save preset positions for the camera maybe its a firmware problem ?

Good luck with your setup I found it full of issues getting a sensor to work the camera and at this point wouldnt recommend the product to your average consumer!!
