Forum Spam

Would the moderators please consider adding Akismet support to this Forum:

Yeah, or give more forum users “moderator” status so they can remove the posts while other moderators are having dinner

Amen Mark. I used to run a vbulletin based website for a long time so I would be willing to be a moderator!

I created a mantis to have our web guy look into this and reply to this forum thread.

Micasaverde, it would be nice to have your presence on this forums more consistent - both to clean the spam and provide some answers…

or just make a few of us mods so we can delete all the BS!

Our web guy is swamped with the new UI. Until then, I asked our receptionist to check each day, and also made everyone on this post, as well as all everyone who reported posts, administrators. These appear to be human posters, not spam bots, because they’re going through the captcha validation and we checked the timing of the messages. I’m not sure if an automated system can block them, but we’ll work on it.

Woo-hoo!

Doesn’t this forum engine support moderators? Making too many people administrators would seem an overkill. That said, I don’t have anything against anybody on this forum, including new admins  It’s just like that saying - power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely… ;D

I know that with a few of us added as administrators, we should be able to keep the spam posts to a min.

I get an email on my phone any time a new topic is started, so with that it should help to keep me more aware of them.

I agree that it would be safer to make us moderators, admin is way too risky (you do have backup, don’t you?) - but I bet users won’t see much spam any time soon

True, making us moderators would ultimately be safer, it won’t give us the option to ban and deactivate users.

Maybe once Micasaverde isn’t so busy with getting Vera’s bugs worked out, they will be able to patrol more regularly, and then we can be set back to Moderators.

While we don’t really know each other, it does seem that those of us posting and watching these forums regularly, are more interested and willing to support the company in this matter. I personally feel that this is my contribution to the company in hopes of continued success.

I don’t know a lot about how the forum admin stuff works. I should have talked to our php/web dev before making everyone admins, because, now that you mention it, it’s probably not a good idea to give people access to view others email/etc. The goal was just so that whenever someone sees spam they can click the user and have that user and his ip banned. I’ll talk to our dev on Monday to see if there’s a way to do this without making several admins.
