Flashing Green Network Light - VeraLite Set Up - Please Help!

Hi all - would anyone be able to help me with this.

I have just purchased a VeraLite and connected it to my router via ethernet cable and plugged the power cable in. After waiting for a few minutes, the blue ‘power’ and orange ‘ready’ lights come on solid OK - but the Green Network Light just steadily flashes, rather than going solid.

When I go to h ttp://micasaverde.com/setup - I get the error “Unit not found on your local network
I cannot find any unit on your home network.”

I have checked that the ethernet cable is working by plugging it into my laptop, turning of wireless - and I can browse the internet fine, so the ethernet cable is definitely working properly.

If anyone can help -that would be fantastic.

Thanks

When plugging in the network cable, how long did you wait to go to the website? Are you able to check your router to see if the router was able to hand off an ip address to the vera lite?

Hi Garrett, thanks very much for your message.

I have waited 5 to 10 mins after booting up Vera Lite. After the unit has finished booting up - the network light, which I understand is supposed to be Solid Green - is a very dim Orange. If I then un-plug and then re-plug in the ethernet cable, the network light steadily flashes Green.

I have an Airport Extreme router - would be be able to let me know how I can check to see if it was able to hand off an IP to vera?

By the way: I have managed to log into the Vera by plugging it directly into my mac using the static IP 192.168.81.2 - and the logging into Vera at 192.168.81.1

Thanks

PS - Garrett.

I have been into the logs section of my airport extreme control panel - and when ever I connect the ethernet cable to Vera I get:

Jan 28 13:02:09 Severity:5 Connection accepted from [fe80::226:8ff:fee8:ef35%bridge0]:51855.

Is that good?

Cheers

We need to know what ip address the router is assigning to vera. I do not own an Airport Extreme, so I can not tell you how to check it. Hopefully others can chime in and guide you. So we have established that your vera lite is indeed working. We just have to figure out the issue between your router and vera. If your router is indeed assigning an ip address, we than need to figure that out. If it is not assigning an ip address, that would be the reason why Vera lite is not being detected. When plugged into your mac directly, what is the status of the network light?

Hi Garrett, thanks again.

When I have Vera plugged direct into my mac - the green network light is now continuously blinking very fast (although I can successfully log in to vera direct this way)

The green network light is also now blinking very fast when I connect Vera to my router - but still getting the same error when I try and log in at h ttp://micasaverde.com/setup

I am investigating the ip address assignments!

Cheers again

MAC addresses are buried in those fe80::* addresses. Look on the sticker on your Vera and see if its MAC address is 00:26:08:e8:ef:35. If yes, that’s your Vera. If no, it’s just a coincidence and it’s some other device. (I think it’s a coincidence. 00:26:08 is owned by Apple).

Is your Airport Extreme configured to be the DHCP server on your network? Go onto the Ethernet configuration tab and see whether it talks about “share an IP address” or “bridge mode”. I bet that something else (an ADSL modem or something) is the real DHCP server. (Edit: see attached screenshot.)

Describe for us your upstream connection, from the Airport Extreme to your ISP.

Thanks very much for your reply Futzle.

I did some digging and managed to get my Airport Extreme to give Vera an IP - so all good in the hood I think! I will research more into ip assigns though.

BTW - I have noticed that the ready light goes out - but the unit seems to function fine - anyone had this?

Thanks Again

Yes on my Vlite the “ready” (ironic) light is usually off though it does serve the function of telling me when it has finished adding a device or saving something.
