First Install - Should I Upgrade Firmware?

I’m headed down to my weekend home tonight and will be installing Vera for the first time there along with a Schlage lock, a motion sensor and the Trane thermostat.

Question for the experienced users/techies out there - should I just install the new LUUP firmware version immediately and then work on setting up my network, or should I setup Vera “out of the box” first, make sure all is OK and working, and then do a firmware upgrade? I’ve seen mixed reviews, but from what I can tell, the new version does work better with the Trane thermostat in particular, so I’m leaning in that direction.

Just looking for the path of least resistance - I don’t want this little installation to become a science project and take up my entire weekend.

I would make sure you have the latest hardware Zwave dongle.
I hear that they are going to drop away support for the older firmware. Your thermostat will not operate fully as it will with the final firmware due out soon. You will probaly need to do a update in either instance it’s up to you. You should be able to get by with firmware 602-618. The new one is still considerd a Beta.

Your biggest concern will be if the door lock will be within range of Vera or the Trane thermostat. If these are your only devices you can set them up at home and trial it there. Use a door bell transformer at 24 volts to power the stat.
