first device added - **updated with resolution**

got my Vera today - very excited. The only device is have to play with at the moment is the lighting module that came with my schlagelink start kit. I removed it from the schlage bridge then paired it with vera. seemed to pair ok and it does show up in vera but I still have that RED COG.

all I did was take the bluetooth dongle over to it, pressed the dongle once, then pressed the button on the module twice (it was twice to add it to schlage bridge). I didn’t do anything in the schlage page to it but I did try the configure now

I did check the box or whatever to allow vera to auto configure - although I can’t find that damn page right now to confirm it.

I can control the module from vera page (turn on/off lights) but nothing actually happens with the lights.

COG has been red for about 3 hours now. and when i click “configure node right now”, nothing appears to happen

what did i do wrong?

CJ/Support advised the following:

 • Remove and re-add the module
 • Move module closer to the Vera.
 • Moving the device closer did completely resolve the issue after running a heal

might be ok. i did a reset device and it’s now green. we’ll see

so was there a reason you are not using the Schlage bridge?

Make sure you follow the special installation of the schlage lock!

i haven’t added the lock yet. i’m getting used to vera first. The reason I want Vera instead of the Schalge bridge is the functionality. The schlage bridge is sort of dumb. It has a real nice web and BlackBerry interface though (way better than vera) but the features are limited. For example, I set up a scene that when the kids use the lock, the lights turn on for them - but with schlage there’s no way to shut it off. So the first kid comes home, lights turn on, cool. Then they stay on. If you manuually shut them off, the second kid gets no light.

also the peripherals with schlage are limited to locks, lights and that’s it for now. they’re camera isn’t ready and they don’t officially support anything else.

but vera doesn’t work as expected - at least not yet. so i may not be switching

** UPDATE** to red cog issues.

it was green for a while and i could make the web site recognize me turning on and off the lights - although the lights didn’t actually go on or off. Now the cog is red again - overnight.

the light module i’m using is the one that came with the schlage link start kit so i’ll chalk it up to that. the light module and motion sensor i ordered from micasaverde should come today and i’ll try to use those instead. if they don’t work, i’m returning this whole box

First you should try to reset your Zwave Network ( Setup → Advanced → Devices → Zwave Options → Reset Zwave Network) Then:

If you still encounter problems with this sensor enable Remote Support and send us a Trouble Report from Setup->Advanced->Tech Support.

Thank you CJ. Givem my peripherals were shipped ground and won’t be here until Friday, i’ll try this tonight. I’m jonesing to get something working.

followed all those directions. took a while to get the module reconnected but i got it in there. And I can now turn on and off the lamp from both the website and the blackberry. But the cog is still RED. I set it to automatically configure when i chose the room it goes into.

i’ll leave it alone over night and see if it goes green.

question…if it turns green and things are good, can I simply move it to another room or do i go through the process again?

Boston.
Moving a device to a new location is not a good Idea.
The whole topology of a Zwave MESH Network is that each device knows where each other is. Each device other that battery can repeat a signal. If a device is moved and no longer in radio reach to the controller or the nearest node it was previously repeating through then the network will not work properly. Vera has a Heal network button to fix this.

For a better explanation take a look at http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Heal_Network

thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. So far, this is the only device though - just one lighting module. i haven’t added the schlage lock yet. I was more concered about the module being unplugged long enough to walk it to it’s permanent home.

took a while but is now resolved. CJ/Support advices to remove and re-add the module. That didn’t work. Next suggestion was to move the device closer. This did resolve the issue. Weird that it needed that though - as the schlage log is in the exact same location as the original module location and that works fine. Anyway, it’s all set. i’ll add another module halfway there to increase the size of the zwave network
