Is it possible to fire a scene when the light switch is pressed and not on a light on/light off event?
I would like to script multiple functions for one light switch depending on the status of the light. Think of it like pressing off once and your light turns off, press off again and another light turns off.
End goal: I have stairs that lead to my front door and a light switch that functions the stair lights at the top of the stairs opposite of the front door. I’d like to press off once to turn the stair light off, and off again to lock my deadbolt. If on is pressed once, light comes on, if on is pressed again, unlock deadbolt.
a scene setup ‘if light is turned off’ will not execute if the light is already off. Nothing happens when you hit the down (or off) side of the switch.
On a normal Z-Wave light switch, it is not possible to separate the state of the switch and the relay. The switch operates the relay and Vera can see the status of, and send commands to, the relay.
If your switch supports instant status, it would be possible to use the Program Logic Event generator (PLEG) to detect rapid on/off/on or off/on/off sequences to run scenes.
I think this will do what you want, it will control a single load PLUS function as a scene controller, so you could turn your stair light on/off, plus have the ability to trigger scenes/other devices, like your lock.
I was hoping to achieve this by scripting but it does make sense as to why it won’t work with a standard zwave light-switch. I suppose I could script it to detect how fast I toggle from one state to the other and manipulate from there but that kind of feels like punching in a cheat code in a video game lol
