Z-Wave devices are served by Vera’s internal logic rather than plugins, aren’t they? That means we will still have to wait until MCV add the firmware-update functionality to the device UI…
not sure… if im not mistaken it can be added by user. question is: how ?
perhaps the sending through z-wave channel needs to be adressed by MCV. you could be right.
edit: send another tech support question to MCV if it is possible to write a plugin for that or if it requires some update to the z-wave kernel to be able to send a firmware file over z-wave to the fibaro devices. I.E. how would we accomplish this ? techsupport seems to not understand tweakers language and presumes ur sorta noob. if anyone can rephrase this better then please do. lol ;D
So… has anyone taken the plunge and bought one of these yet?
They are quite expensive, but our European friends on this list keep espousing their virtues and teasing us about them.
The Fibaro promotional video for their home automation system doesn’t help (or hurt) either.
well, the are worth it eventhough they cost 50 euro over here in netherlands. the’re most versatile and usable z-wave stuff u can get nowadays.
i cant imagine living without them anymore hehe
Before I saw these, I was thinking about getting the Aeon micro modules. The only thing that kept me from getting them was the thought of cramming them into the back of the switch boxes. Got a new construction house that is less than a year old, and some of the single gang boxes are a bit cramped.
Just how big are the modules?
Would I tease you? Well - maybe a little… ;D
They are not bargain-basement priced and, with the US versions being new, you are probably going to pay a premium for a while. Personally I think they’re worth every penny but we don’t have as many alternative (and cheap) products in Europe.
Looking at the price of some of the top-end Leviton dimmers, not everyone will find Fibaros expensive. :
Just how big are the modules?1 5/8" W x 1 1/2" H x 11/16" D (I still remember how to use inches...)
They are smaller than the Aeon modules.
I just bought a used Nexia bridge on ebay to update firmware on some schlage deadbolts. Have no intention of keeping it hooked up beyond that. Maybe we need to start a “library” of equipment we can share around for this sort of thing.
where to buy fibaro devices in USA ?
Maybe we need to start a "library" of equipment we can share around for this sort of thing. Now there's a good thought. Can I borrow it this evening, please? Now where are you - oops different time-zone...
Seriously, you may have a good idea there - at least where freight costs permit. ;D
where to buy fibaro devices in USA ?They are not released yet. See: Here.
The OP pointed out that they were available from the Dominican Republic. That would be an option if you did not care too much about UL, CSA, FCC, and assorted other acronyms. ;D
ah well… as long as the frequency is the same you can adapt the rest to it ^^
Well, there’s also this from the Fibaro R&D dept - “We decided to make several feature enhancements to both hardware and software while we were going through the certification process.”
So it might be worth waiting for the new version when it’s released in Sept. Plus if your house burns down and they find those the insurance co will probably use it as an excuse not to pay up.
"We decided to make several feature enhancements to both hardware and software while we were going through the certification process."That sounds more like the Marketing department, to me.
The Development guys I know are more likely to have said: “They didn’t pass the approval process so we’re fixing them.” ;D

LMAO
i agree xD
Somehow, I don’t think your insurance company will like you playing amateur electrician and re-wiring light switches and plugs for home automation, UL/FCC certified or not.
Same would probably go for a burglary, having your garage wired to open from the internet, or the front door pop open at the push of a button.
Buy one, isolate it in a test environment and see if it releases the magic smoke, or at least trips a breaker or two. If it seems solid, then go for it.
Or if you are really brave, buy some 220v versions, re-wire a light fixture to use 220v, run a secondary Z-wave controller at the Euro frequency and see how they work. (just joking, don’t do this unless you do want your house to burn down).
Hmm, I wonder how long it will be until someone buys a Z-wave UL/FCC certified device, wires it in wrong, starts a fire, then tries to sue the company over it for damages? I’ll bet a happy meal at McDonald’s that it will be someone from California.
buy some 220v versions,I know you are joking but, FYI, Fibaro modules work at 110-240V (+/- 10%) and 50 or 60Hz. They just come in the four Z-Wave frequencies: 868,4 MHz; 908,4 MHz; 921,4 MHz; 869,2 MHz.
I wonder if the “…feature enhancements to both hardware and software…” will result in a special US-only version? They could include a safety fuse that will open if deployed anywhere in California… ;D

Making things California proof is pretty hard
To make it legal in California you would also have to:
-
Re-engineer the device to the point where it would sit in a large plastic enclosure like this http://www.inyopools.com/Products/02401472073422.htm?gclid=CMnn96TBvrgCFbCDQgodL3kAzQ that is locked and has a tamper sensor on it, alerting the authorities that it was opened.
-
It would have to be installed by a special state licensed technician who would also charge an additional $100/per device installation, plus a $50 fee for the site visit, and an additional $10/hr for labor. And if there are any additional material costs, those will also be charged at 1.5 - 2.0 times their retail price.
-
Obtain a special permit to operate these devices in your house from the State, County, and City you live in.
-
Obtain additional permission/permit from the electric company that provides you power.
-
Have a yearly inspection to ensure that the device is functioning correctly, which would cost $50/unit and require you to remove the devices from your house, take them to an inspection facility for testing. You would also have to re-contract with the installer to remove the devices at the same cost above, but luckily re-installation will be included at a discount or free.
-
Immediately upgrade any devices, firmware or physically, when a new version comes out that incorporates some new and obscure feature that nobody uses or needs, but that was meant only for use in California.
-
Pay a annual levy/fee to the State, County, and City you live in at the rate of $20/device.
Disclaimer: I am not a resident of California, so the information above may not be accurate.
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. The same could be said for many other places in the US or anywhere else in the world.
Brilliant! LMAO. ;D
you can buy a euro version vera and fibaro devices and use this on 110v system, that will work and doesn’t require special hardware to convert power. i made a 2x110v in Belgium, it works. only thing is that you require to have is the skill to piss on the authorities and regulations in the country u live in. here in Netherlands its also not allowed to change anything in the electric systems without proper education and a permit, but i have yet to find a person that actually does care about this lol. land of freedom they call it and unlike Amerika its not just mentioning this but actually do practice it xD
