Fibaro 500W Universal Dimmer

Hi,

This may be a newbie question but I guess we all have to start somewhere.

I’ve bought the Fibaro 500W dimmer which indicates that it has 2 switches (S1 & S2).
Unlike the Fibaro relay it does not have two outputs (O1 &O2). How can you use this dimmer to control 2 switches. If it can’t control two switches what is the use for S1 & S2?

Really hope this dimmer module can control 2 light switches because there isn’t enough space in the switch box for 4 dimmer modules!

Is there another dimmer module which can control multiple switches if this one can’t?

Only one dimmer output, based on s1 input. Use of s2 is optional to dim the same output. However, you can configure s2 direct association to switch another z-wave device directly.
Another useful feature is linking multiple dimmers so that dimming is synchronised across multiple dimmers (without relying on Vera). Works both ways too because I use it with independant lights at top and bottom of my stairs that synchronise with each other.

Dear jtmoore,

Can you elaborate how you assciated/linked multiple dimmers? Seems you’re one of the few who succceeded.
I have 3 Fibaro dimmers and want to control with 1 the other 2. I set up all 3 to be part of Group 1 and set all with Parameter no. 18 to 1.
Yet nothing changed and it doesn’t work.
Thanks in advance.

Example of how to link 2 Fibaro dimmers (with Vera lite UI5). This creates a 2-way or landing light circuit without connecting wires.

1). Set device parameter 18 to value of 1 (1 byte hex) on both Dimmer devices
2). On each Dimmer device, create a Group Association for Group ID #1, and set to the device ID of the opposite dimmer.

Note that this only works for manual local control of the dimmer. i.e. using the S1 switch. Control works in both directions and responds immediately.

If you use Vera to control the dimming level of one device, it will not automatically set the 2nd device to the same level, because the association only seems to work for manual control.

I will attach some screen shots of how I have my two dimmers set up for the above example.

Example of using the S2 switch on Fibaro Dimmer to send on/off control to another z-wave device.

The S1 switch can only control the dimmer function, but the S2 button can also be configured to be used as an on/off switch that remotely controls another z-wave device via association.

On the Dimmer device, create a Group Association #2, and select the z-wave device you want to control.

In my example screen shot, my dimmer device (#41) is controlling device #33 which is an Everspring plug in appliance connected to a bedside lamp. This allows me to remotely control my lamp from the wall switch without having to add any new wiring (I simply replaced the single gang switch with a double gang switch, with the dimmer module connected to both, without needing a neutral wire).
The S2 switch feature is especially useful for houses where there is no neutral in the pattress box.

jtmoore, how do you actually…

create a Group Association #2, and select the z-wave device you want to control.

step by step instructions would be helpful (sorry for the newbie request!!)

Many thanks

Hi
i’m trying to get something like this working as well, but no luck. Any chance of a guide on how to create a group association?
Thanks

Haven’t got this written into a guide, but hope these quick words will help you: -

  1. On your Fibaro Dimmer, click the setting wrench symbol
  2. Click the “Device Options” tab
  3. Scroll down to see the Group ID box, enter value of 2 into the box, and click the “Add group” button
  4. Some new text and buttons will appear like this:
    Group ID: 2 “Del”
    Set to: “Set”
    Currently: “View”
  5. Click the “Set” button
  6. Scroll down your list and find the device name(s) that you want to activate when you press the S2 button, and place a tick in the check box(es).
  7. Scroll to bottom of list to find and click on “Back to ZWave options” link
  8. Press the X on the properties box to finish editing your device.
  9. You will notice that “Set to” should not show the device ID of the device name(s) you selected in step 6.
  10. Remember to click the SAVE button top right of screen.

That’s all there is to it! Hope that helps.

Hello jtmoore,
thank you very much for this quick and easy guide. good work!

I am wondering (as I am totally new here) if there is any manual describing settings like this, so I won’t need to write in the forum next time. If not, or if you have another quick answer, I would like to ask you about another issue:

I have a Fibaro double relay switch (FGS - 221 v1.9 - v1.10) and single relay switch (FGS - 211 v1.9 - v1.10) which I want to control through my on wall switches. The problem is, those are not switches, but just momentary push buttons, so they are holding the contact closed just as long as I push them. Could you please help me with this please?

Thank you.

Best regards,
Korst

It sounds as though you need to change configuration parameter 14 to 0. See: Here.

Hello RexBeckett,
thank you, that helped. Although on one switch it does not work, but this one I am going to find out the mistake myself.

Korst,

If you’re still having problems with the momentary switch with the relay or dimmer modules, take a look at these application notes, they should help you figure out the answer.
