At my gate (100 meters away from my house) I have a vera lite (slaved), fibaro relais (2x1,5kw) to operate the gate and a fibaro 3in1 sensor with a push button attached.
The fibaro 3in1 sensor triggers a scene when the push button is touched, this scene activates my sonos in my house to play a mp3 sound … works perfect.
But since the gate is far away from my house , a visitor doesn’t hear anything when he/she pushes the doorbell. Which is annoying offcourse … how many times have you been in front of a door when you push the doorbell and it seems nothing happends
What I want is a sound near the gate , just to let the people now … something is working.
it is quite easy , get a sonos play 3 near the gate and voila … just a bit expense
Other option is an android thingy with vera alerts (no wifi near my gate just a router with cables), so no clue how I can hook up the android device to the internet (cheap) :-s
Than I was thinking to use the fibaro relais (2x 1,5kw) which operates my gate. I only use the parent to controll the gate , and the parent is configured that it is only activates for 1 second, than it goes off again (simulates a push button). I still have the other (child) of this relais unused. I am not sure how many volts run throught the electronics of the gate (to simulate the push button) , but I expect it is 5 volts … (not sure if there is a way to measure it). Is there a way I can hook up here a very small device which puts out a little beep or dong, doesn’t have to be loud , just enough to hear something at 2 meters distance.
@ Guessed: Cool, with some googling ( no clue what a piezo was) I found some things which can be usefull: this one for example:

But I am also thinking of giftcards, when you open them , they play a sound … any thoughts on that?
;D
Thanks,
Cor
The card chime might work if you had an isolated closed-contact spare… I’ve never opened one up. I don’t imagine it would last long, as either its battery would bail or its enclosure would need to be seriously weatherized.
I’d imagine it’d be interesting to press a doorbell, and hear it playing ‘Happy birthday’ or ‘Jingle Bells’.

I like the happy birthday option The idea is to put the buzzer inside the enclosure of the gate electronics, so no problem with weather.
