Since the RMA request at MCV takes forever i decided to use a tricklestar USB dongle on the UI4 with success. (alternate usb settings). I upgraded to UI5 yesterday, and that throws the Z-wave dongle off the cliff. It just says “Starting Z-wave” forever.
So i begun to restore the firmware to UI4 again. >:( >:(
Anybody knows if the tricklestar is no longer supported or has the usb port settings changed? (For external z-wave dongle)
Not quite an answer to your question, however I upgraded to UI5 yesterday and also have the “No Z-Wave Dongle” message - even though I have a Vera 2 with internal Z wave!
@Chris: I also have the “no z-wave dongle” regardless of running UI4 or UI5. I have tech supports word for, that my Vera 2 is defective. They have even started a RMA request on my behalf, but nothing has happened since. (about 10 days now, without any signs of progress.)
In the meantime i was running a tricklestar dongle on my V2 to control christmas light on a schedule. But after upgrading to UI5 my Tricklestar dongle was not recognized anymore.
You should try to roll back to UI4 to see if the dongle is still unreachable.
I was running the tricklestar on the usb port /dev/usb/tts/0 instead of the internal on /dev/tts/1
