Excellent new Fibar z-wave switches - a 5 minute test and review

Odd, mine have never had that problem: they keep reporting state changes instantly to Vera. I did have this problem with Duwi.ME switches; the vendor replied that there was a problem with stack overflow in the Zensys SDK that may occur in larger networks, and they updated the formware in my switch which has been working ever since. Perhaps the issue with Fibaro has the same underlying cause?

My Fibaro switch is reported as version 3,3,20,1,4, what’s yours?

Hi, I have about 8 of them. They all report the same firmware version as yours.
Fibaro has also claimed, this was a problem in the Zensys software, but they haven’t applied an update yet. (I suppose)

Polling the devices seems to have something to do with it. I stopped polling all fibaro devices which seems to have prolonged the timespan. I also have scenes that uses a pair of them as toggle switches. The switch that is the farest away from vera has the most problems.

I’ll keep you posted.

Just to confirm what others have said, I just emailed the company regarding availability in the states… here is their response:

Hello. Are plan to start sale in US in April/may 2012. Thank You for being interested in our products.

anyone know if these things are UL listed? I don’t see the UL emblem on the images of the product.

just emailed them, and they responded that they are not currently UL listed, but will be submitting them to be tested.

Did the same thing and sent some email back and forth. You can ask him to be added to his email distro and he will contact you when sales begin in the US. He also told me their US distro will be out of Washington state. Sounds like the new “Lili” that is on their website will be something like Siri for iPhones. I’m looking forward to this company coming to the US. They have a great reputation outside the US.

Hi,

Have anyone been able to make Fibaro FGD-211 button #2 (group 2) associate to a virtual device or in any other way trigger a scene? I know the question has been posted in this forum before. But did anyone succeed?

kind regard,

i don’t have the dimmer but i have a fibaro FGS211 ( the 1x3kw switch ) controling a 3-way light on my stairs.

one of the stairs wall switches controls the virtual switch. i have 2 triggers set up ( one when the device is turned on, another when the device is turned off ) that run a scene. that scene checks the light status and changes it.

So can one fibar switch control a light that is part of a 3 way circuit…or 4 way? This would be fantastic since now I need to have every switch replaced with either auxiliary zwave or main zwave switch with the GE zwave system. I have many 3 and 4way switches in the house and replacing them all is very costly…What do you think? Does Fibar solve this problem?

Sort of…
I have used them for just that. I works fine for about one week.( in my case, depends on how often the switch is used)
After that a switch stops sending to its associated devices.
This seems to be a software bug in the fibaro switches.
After they stop responding, I have to cut the mains power to reset them.
After first admitting the failure, I haven’t heard from them. So I am not sure if it is going to be fixed and what will the eventual update policy would be.

@umtauscher,

Sounds like you’re describing a virtual 3-way scenario; correct?
I think @wthorpe is wondering if the Fibaro’s can be used in a wired 3-way scenario, i.e. can multiple (single, existing) switches be connected to a single Fibaro module?

Yes, I have all wired 3 and 4 way switches…there is even a light that has 5 switches hard wired to it!! I guess the people who built the house really wanted access to light switches wherever they were. I am looking to simplify now, and the fibar module may be just the piece of equipment I need. Now I just hope that they can handle the light load on a switch.

Thank you for putting that in perspective.
Yes you are right what I was describing.
But the other thing is no problem with the fibaros.

Where wired multiple switches control a load/light, you can just keep using all of these with the Fibar switches. Just need to put it in the box where the (single) connection to the load leaves and not in one of the switch-boxes that are (double) connecting with the other switch-boxes. Where the multiple switches turned the load ON/OFF before, they will now switch the relay in the Fibar device ON/OFF.
Complication may be to have line and neutral both available to power the Fibar device.

When a new switch is required at a new location, or the wiring cannot be easily extended to provide the line/neutral to the box, adding a wireless battery powered zwave controller is a great way to switch the load from anywhere.
You can set this up as a scene to be run by VERA (triggered by the new zwave controller) or directly associate the zwave controller with the Fibar device.

With a Fibaro Dimmer Switch how do you include the device into a Vera3 network once it’s installed behind a wall switch.

Do you toggle the wall switch? Just curious.

The Dimmer enters the mode of inclusion/exclusion after a quick pressing three times the push-button connected to S1 terminal or push-button B located inside the housing. For bi-stable switch perform 3 position changes.
