Evolve 5-Button LCD Controller

Has anyone used these yet? You are supposed to be able to program the scenes and set the labels from within Vera.

Barry,

Are the labels programmable? Very nice scene controller if that is the case, hopefully someone can confirm operation with Vera.

I guess i just answered my own question about the labels being programmable by reading the description on your website:

Notice/Warning: Labels and Scenes are programmable via MiCasaVerde Vera, HomeSeer or Somfy Tahoma

What would be totally cool is to have the lables contact sensitive. I’d love to press a room button then have the scenes come up for that room. Or have a second page of scenes. Wonder if Vera could update them fast enough to make that work?

But then when you look at the price it might make more sense to get a cheep wall dock for a iPodTouch and just use it.

Or android device.

I just came across this scene controller as well. Contrary to one of the postings earlier in this thread, ASI’s description now says the labels are only configurable through Homeseer or Somfy TahomA (not Vera). Does anyone (MCV perhaps) know if there are any plans to be able to configure this controller through Vera as well?

My biggest gripe with all of the Leviton scene controllers I have is that I cannot see the button labels in low light/darkness. I’ve lived with them long enough that I can usually press the correct button from memory, but guests have a tougher time. It would be great to have a backlit controller like this one, as well as one that can so easily have labels changed if you change scenes.

Good catch. I had been following this device / thread for a bit wondering if someone was going to take the plunge…

What android devices in an iPod Touch / candy bar formfactor come without a cellular contract?

Samsung has a few android based ipod like devices.

Cool… I’ve been wanting to check out Androd ( pretty much an iOS household here ) but I just couldn’t see buying a new cell phone ( with a plan ) just to check it out. Almost bought a Amazon Fire but it isn’t really a good example of a true ( vanilla ) android experience.

Can someone from micasaverde please address this subject here on the forum so we can all stop guessing if this works or not. It can’t be that hard to tell us something.

Best way to get a formal response from MCV is to open a ticket against them.

Any used Android cellphone from eBay. They all have wifi capability.

I bought a used Samsung Infuse from ebay with a 4.5" OLED screen for use as an MP3/pmp player. It works great for that and no contract.

Look at the new Google Nexus 7 tablet. It’s a 7" tablet like the Fire but true Android experience since it’s from Google (runs the new 4.1 “Jelly Bean”). For the same price as the Evolve you get a full tablet. Now we just need a cool wall mount/charger like this:

That may be true if I just wanted an answer but since there are many wanting to know the same thing they should post and answer here since they do follow the forums, or at least that’s what they tell us.

It’s just another avenue to get a response; and a ticket more formally puts it on their plate. You could then post any response you got here.

Anyway, I also tried the email-to-MCV angle with the specific question about compatibility, a few days ago; no luck so far. (I can see how the label programming is not standard Z-Wave, so probably some specialized support from MCV is going to be required.)

I also submitted a support ticket requesting information about supporting the Evolve controller. I received a reply from support in about 24 hours requesting the specific manufacturer and model number (even though I included that in my original ticket), which I promptly provided back to them, along with a link to Evolve’s website with the specs. So at least they looked at my ticket. With that said, I haven’t heard anything since. I will make sure to post any reply I get to this thread.

Thanks; I haven’t heard anything in response to my email, and will hold off bugging them (for a bit).

I’ve exchanged a couple of emails with Support on this controller, and it’s been somewhat frustrating because they just aren’t understanding my question. I’m hoping my last response clarified exactly what we’re asking about. But so far, it is clear that MCV hasn’t done anything with this new scene controller. And apparently documentation (from Evolve) is lacking as well.

I was just about to order a Leviton vizia 4.

I might just take the plunge…

I will create a support ticket to see if they have plans to support this controller. I’ll post the responses also.

OK, so I heard back from MCV on this controller. And if I’m understanding correctly (and I may not be), this controller can be configured with parameters BUT the LCD button labels are pre-defined based upon a “keypad type” that you select. In other words, you cannot make those LCD button labels anything you want them to be. But again, I may be misunderstanding. Here’s MCV’s response to me…

Hi Sig,
Were you referring to the preset labels on the device?
If you were then please know that the Evolve LCD keypad supports a set of predefined keypad types for the buttons and two indicators for one button, DND (Privacy) and Housekeeping. Changing the keypad type can be done with a configuration parameter.
The configuration parameter supports 18 preset values for different labels and actions of the buttons. It also supports a range of settings for the LCD backlight for on and off, and for the collours.

Also, she sent me the specification document. So if someone more z-wave savvy than I would like to read this and comment back to the group on whether or not these button labels can be manipulated, please do. I’ve attached the spec doc.
