Everspring SM103 Door/Window Sensor detected as a motion sensor

Hi All,

I’m fairly new to Vera and the forum but after some extreme pain setting up my Vera II (and I’m an EE) I finally have it working pretty well, thanks in a large part to help from this forum. You folks are great.

I have a minor problem that I can’t find an answer to so I was hoping someone could help. I purchased this door/window sensor for my garage door to turn on the garage and basement lights when my wife comes home (recently she had a good friend murdered in a home invasion so I purchased the Vera to beef up security). It’s working fine except that Vera thinks it’s a motion sensor, not a door/window sensor. The icon on the UI is a person either stationary or running, to indicate not tripped vs. tripped. It functions fine, but I would like it to look like a door/window sensor (whatever they should look like in Vera) so that it’s easier to tell whether the door is open or closed when looking at the UI. One hint is that in the Advanced Settings for the device the “device_file” setting is “D_MotionSensor1.xml” even though it’s not a motion sensor. I could change that manually if I knew what a door/window sensor should be, and where to get the XML file.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks,
Don

D_DoorSensor1.xml is the door sensor, however the icon will stay the same (running man icon).

I think the concept behind the UI device is to represent the "Idle" state (Blue standing) and "Active" state (Red running)

That's what the D/W sensors look like too, even in UI5. There hasn't been any fuss to warrant changing them, they'll grow on you to where you'll get used to the actions.

Gee, that’s intuitive. :-\

It just seems to me that for a door/window sensor an icon like a closed door/open door would be much more intuitive. New users would immediately know what it means. Personally I’m beginning to like the Vera but a little effort to make it more “user friendly” would go a long way.

Thanks very much for the responses.

But what if it were being used on a window or door bell or a ton of other uses for those devices. Doors may not fit those scenarios.

It does not make sense to limit the use to a specific item (doors) and to cover all the bases, you would end up with numerous files. Bear in mind that the storage space on Vera is very limited.

If needed, you could create your own file and use your own .pngs?

You can change the service id and the xml and this will look and behave as a door/window sensor instead of motion. I don’t know if there are any negative side effects.
