Envisalink 3, DSC 1616 panel/keypad, and ptk5507

I have a DSC 1616 6 zone keypad with wired zones. I have wired windows and doors, a motion sensor, glass break detector, and indoor / outdoor sirens. All six zones are in use.

I have two keypads: the dsc ptk 5507 and 1616.

I have the envisalink 3 in my box with a cat 5e Ethernet cable run to my wireless router. I self monitor, use the web app, and get text with it.

I suspect I’ll need a zone expander for my panel.

My question is: I’d like to have z wave door locks, lights, and a garage door. When I open these I’d like some lights to come on and the alarm to turn off. Also, if the alarm goes off id like lights to turn on. I understand I can do this with the Vera 3? What will I need and what are the steps to complete this project?

Thanks!!!

Chris

Looks like the envisalink eyez on 3 has the same firmware as the 2ds. So that shouldnt change from that install.

Also, I have a quality wireless router… So I suppose I’d only need the vera lite.

Anyone out there who can help?

Thanks!

This wasn’t easy to find!

Dense reading: DSC Alarm Panel

Are there anymore help guides. Seems there is a lot of flexibility with this thing.

It seems I’d have to get the Vera 3 instead of the Vera lite, because I’d have to plug the envisalink into it instead of into my router…? Also, would I have the existing operation with eyez on servers… Or would I only be able to use the envisalink through Vera then?

Also, I don’t see options for door unlock disarms alarm and lights the house. Is this possible? Reading some security forum comments… Is it safe?

Thanks for any help!!!

Quick answers:

a) I’d recommend to Plug the 2DS/3DS unit into your regular router, not the Back of the Vera3
This way, the UI on the 2DS/3DS unit itself will be generally accessible within your [home] network.

It’s being used on Vera 2 (where it was developed), Vera 3 & Vera Lite (where it was ported), so it really doesn’t matter which model you use, as long as you have a switch port somewhere to connect both it, and the Vera unit, so they can see each other.

b) The device can be Scene scripted.
You’ll get events covering the Arming/Disarming activities, as well as events for “Tripping” the Motion Sensors devices (these map 1:1 with your Zones)

These events can be used to trigger actions in other Vera devices, to do things like shutdown lighting, turn on lights, turn of thermostats etc…

You’ll also be able to scene-script actions upon the Panel, like Arming. You can also script Disarming, but it requires you to store an Alarm PIN code in the scene script. … that may or may not sit well with you depending upon your security posture.

Anyhow, you can use events from other Vera devices to “trigger” a scene that, in turn, arms or disarms the house.

NB: When you do that, “backups” of your Vera configuration will contain that PIN Code. In turn, if you choose to store your backups on the MiOS Infrastrucure (an option), then your PIN code will be there also… hence the “word of caution” in doing this.

PS: while it’s possible, I don’t store my PIN code like this, it’s a paranoia thing

Im tech/computer friendly, but I’m by no means a computer programmer. The Scene scripting? Where can I learn more about that? Is it canned spam script that I can just cut and paste without too much work?

Also… The Vera lite only has one jack for the cat5e cable. So I can plug the envisalink 3 to my router and then the router to the Vera lite and that’d be good to go?

Thanks for all your help!

Chris

For simple scenes, you use the Scene menu of Vera, making selections for trigger events and outcomes. For the simple stuff there is no code, but you’ll likely find yourself needing Lua to do anything more complex.

There are examples on the wiki, and all over this forum, so I won’t go over that here.

Also... The Vera lite only has one jack for the cat5e cable. So I can plug the envisalink 3 to my router and then the router to the Vera lite and that'd be good to go?
Exactly. This will be how most people have it setup.
