Email notifications not working

Hello. Total newbie here.

I got a Vera Lite a few weeks ago and currently only have 2 devices: a kwikset lock and a garage tilt sensor from Ecolink.

Everything was working great and email notifications were working, etc.

Yesterday I decided to turn off all the extraneous notifications and installed the Countdown Timer app and set up a scene to tell me if the garage was open for more than 60 minutes. (it was the 3 scenes with the counter going, stopping, etc).

All the alerts and everything in the console seem to be popping like they should, but I’m no longer getting email notifications on events. I even turned them back on for events I didn’t care about, and they’re not coming thru either.

Not sure if this is coincidental or caused by the Countdown Timer app install, or if when I was mucking around in there I turned off something I shouldn’t, or if it’s something on the Vera end.

Any ideas for me?

Just for claification:

  • I’ve gone into the modes and ensured that notifications in the mode were still turned on
  • I’ve gone on my user and changed the email address to another one (which DOES generate a “verify your address” email). i then verify the address
  • I can see in the Alerts section that the alert popped and that it says it emailed. But I don’t receive it. I’ve tried this with both gmail and non gmail addresses.
  • I’ve created a new countdown timer so that I can trip it and get an alert to test things, and still nothing.

I can’t find anywhere else to turn on/off alerts.

Okay, feel like I’m talking to myself here, but just another update:

  • I enabled TEXT notifications and suddenly a bunch of my alerts pushed thru on both my phone and email
  • I then disabled text notifications and it still seems to be working.

I’m going to give it an hour and test again to see if it’s still working. i really hope that wasn’t the fix, but who knows. The only other thing i did was email Vera support, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet.

Many people have moved over to other notifications systems because of the reliability of MCV servers.

You may want to take a look at the Vera Alerts Plugin … it is a front end for many notification clients … as well as providing a very good Android Notification client.

As the author … I am biased.

Thank you, I’ll take a look!

Do you just disable the built in notifications and then use it to take over all alerting or does just installing it take over everything?

I have used vera alerts for years. Install the plugin into vera and the app from the play store on your mobile device. Add your mobile device ID number to the plugin in vera so it knows where to send the message. You can setup more then one person or device and under the notifications tab on each device in vera you cna choose who to send which notification to.

As an unconnected third party, I am also biased.
