Email Notification on low temperature

Hi,

I have 2 Trane thermostats. What are the steps to setup a trigger on a low temp reading to send an email notification?

In the winter time, I am away from my house on the weekends and I want to be notified when the temperature in the house goes below 50 degrees which could indicate that my heating system has failed and I need to call for service.

If this is not a feature available in Vera, has someone written a script that they can share with me to do this?

Thanks -

Adrian

if the device is correctly supported you simply create a scene, add event, choose the device, in the dropdown choose " a temp is reached" put in your temp and check the box for notification, be aware that that this only works for low temp alerts and you will recieve a notification every time the temp changes and is below your setting, there is a bug in the system so there is no way to set a high temp alert so when it says “a temp is reached” it really means “a temp below X is reached”

Thank-you. I am new to Vera and totally overlooked configuring this as an event.

no sweat, it was pretty much the same need that led me to vera, the only thing annoying is you get a notification for every temp change below your threshold, so if you are set for say 45 degrees it will page you at 44, 43, 42 etc. wish I could get just one but instead I have to go turn the scene off temporarily once I get the alert, the good news is it has been very reliable for me UI2 ver 979, I ended up adding some motion sensors too, Vera is great though the quirks can have ya pulling your hair out at times 8)

This don’t seem to work on 979 with a trane t’stat, unless i am doing something wrong. ???

ctvrod : I am on 979 as well (had a typo in my profile) as long as your thermostat is recognized asd a temp device (in other words if you can choose scene>event>a temp is reached) you should have this functionality, works very reliably for me (knocking on wood) post details if you care to troubleshoot

thanks for you input, we are going to the house next week, i will play while i am there. the door lock (have entered many different codes for varies contractors) and stat are working don’t want to try to many things when i am 1000 miles away from vera. was hoping to add a Linksys camera this time not sure that is going to happen, cannot find the older version of the Linksys camera that vera supports.
wayne

I’m with ya there Bro, I’ve learned the hard way not to make changes when I’m off site though I’m not afraid to play with scenes, good luck!

I just got a Trane Tstat to replace my Wayne Dalton. Any tips on installing the Trane??

I configured an event as pgrover516 suggested and it works flawlessly. In my case, I don’t mind the multiple email notifications as the temperature drops in the house since this would be a situation where my boiler has failed or the power is out and I need to take some action.

bennynations,

I have two Trane thermastats that I installed at differnent times. I did not have 24v power so I had to run new wire from my boiler to each thermstat. It took me a little bit to figure out the wiring to the trane from the 24v power supply on the boiler, but I suspect this should be a breeze for you since you are already powering a Wayne Dalton.

Adding the Trane’s to Vera was a simple click of the USB stick and a menu option under setup on the trane to put it into configure/discovery mode. I have had no issues and they have been running flawless for the last month.

Let me know if you run into any trouble.

remember there is a 20 notification daily max, I have run afoul of this while testing before I knew it existed

Hi
do you know if it fails (20 count) at MCV or at Vera, assume it fails at MCV then one should be able to go to notifications at findvera and at least see the event tried to send the message ???

that has been my experience, that you will see a failed attempt if you look up the notifications at finvera

FYI, the events are still being registered, but FindVera servers won’t send more than 20 notifications a day:

Must say I am impressed with all the features on the Tran thermostat. One of My WDTC-20’s died yesterday so I replaced it with the Trane thermostat. Simple set up and simple programming. Hell, Radio Shack had it in stock for 149 bucks!
