My first question has to do with point of entry lighting. I want the simplest wiring possible. I would like a scene controller at each point of entry. Do the scene controllers need to also control local loads?
My second question, if I want to control a group of overhead lighting with a dimmer, can that dimmer also be activated by a series of independent scene controllers ex. at different points entry?
Sorry, maybe a non-expert will do. In-wall scene controllers just need a hot and neutral to work. They are available with or without local load control. The ones that have load control only provide on/off switching, not dimming. Any scene-capable device can be activated by any scene controller. You can have many scene controllers that control a given scene or a device that is part of any number of scenes. So each entry point could control the same scene (in effect, 3-way switches) or you could have each entry point control a slightly different scene which included something specific to that particular location. But almost what you want is possible, and indeed, what you want to control needs wires, and some scene controllers are battery operated that can control the loads you want
So, you need a plan first , of what and how you want to control things 
So, at your point of entry : a motion detector, or a switch.
or what you like etc.

and yes if you come through entry A, you can start scene 1
you come through entry B you can start scene 2
even if you pass A you can start scene 1 and after a certain time scene 2, etc
