Edge....its taken me to the edge....

So Vera 2 went weird, got an edge as that’s the only option. I spent some time starting from scratch for a nice clean install, spent an hour going around the house including items, setting them up and only had a few mains wired things left to do which were going to be a pain, but that said edge seems nice and nippy.

Tech support kindly said the would be able to transfer those last few items, email confirmed they did it. Get home today everything I have transferred myself has vanish totally, the good news is the things that were going to be a real paid to include again are now showing.

Edge has gone from being a fast responsive box to slower than Vera 2. Is everyone going to tell me I should have kept going with my zero build approach ?.

has anyone else seen these issues

  1. scenes created list themselves 5 or 6 times each. If you delete the come back again.
  2. Edge keeps trying to route you back to the web log in but wont connect (it has connection to the internet).
  3. given that all the devices that have vanished are already associated to my edge I need to perform the removal process so they reset and I can include them again. where is that setting in UI7 (cant find it anywhere).

  3. ui7 (not edge) has a very finicky auto save. Notifications will also do the same. If you add several at a time it will create doubles. There is also a process of refreshing your browser after a luup restart to get everything to save and show up properly.

  4. sounds like you have a known bug where your vera is no external connection. If this is true it won’t find your vera on the app or from the home.mios.com site. This also leads to when your logged in local and click on certian options on the left side of the screen a login pops up but you can’t actually login. If you call vera they will fix it in a few min. If you send an email it might take days.

Ok thanks sounds like I need to delete all the scenes and start again.

The issue with not being able to connect to see the device only has appeared after tech support were on it! :O)

  1. have you reloaded and refreshed your browser to see if those devices are there? Have you tried another browesr?

To exclude a device just go to add device and while its in add mode click the message that says something like “I’m trying to add but it’s not finding it” then it will change to exclude device on the top of the page.

ah yes I see that now, that’s a well hidden exclude. Seemed easier in UI5 where there was a specific function.

If you click the delete button on a z-wave device it offers delete/unpair, the latter meaning exclude because that’s what it says on the following page…

But his devices did not show up in VERA. So he couldn’t delete them from the UI device.

Hang in their going from ui5 to ui7 is a change. Alot is the same but in different places. What used to seem easy only now seems harder because you don’t know where it is and your having to ask and get frustrated. I made the switch a month ago or so (and thought I never was going to do it) but now I can’t say I hate it. It has quarks but knowing them and knowing your way around makes it seem just like ui5.

Correct there was a whole load of devices gone AWOL.

The only way I can resolve is to go around all the devices again using excluding them (which forces a reset) and then including them again. A pain in the butt.

I’m also now unable to delete scenes and keep getting an error message. I’ve had to reach out to tech support for more help.

I’ve just called them re the connection issue and they did indeed fix the issue in a few mins.

Phone call is the best, people email and wait days and post bad messages on here, but I always had good luck calling them.

I use PLEG and not the default scenes so I don’t know if I can be much help, but whats the Error message?

They were good on the phone. I’ve email about the other issue though.

I get a “failed to save system configuration” message when trying to delete things. I also have a scene controlled that’s appeared since the guys copied stuff from Vera 2 and that wont delete either. I think I need to bite the bullet do a full hard system reset and start it clean again, copying stuff over from Vera 2 I think was a bad idea.

If tech support can’t sort it I will hit the kill switch and start over, I’d rather do that early on than after I’ve set up PLEG and all the detail. At least that will take care of my Saturday :O).

Honestly that’s what I did from the VeraLite. I already had added and remove plugins, had device numbers all over the place and just felt that things are so moved around a played with while I was just learning that when the EDGE came I started by installing all my plugins then added and removed each device one by one. Devices actually go fast its the PLEG and stuff that takes longer. But I used that time to organize it better then it was originally. So I was able to get a few small things done while the Lite was running (was running both systems).

Felt like a new start and things are better since.

In the end I decided to go for the full rest option and start again from scratch. That’s meant taking off a number of light switches and including everything again (not much fun with the battery devices that are stuck to things) but all in all it’s delivering a much better experience. For me a fully clean start is the best way, having tried the other option it was just a total disaster (and that was with the tech support guys from Vera involved). Start clean.
