dyndns dynamic ip resetting and ip address from Vera

I have two Foscam FI8918W cameras, and they’re set up to use dyndns so they can be accessed from the internet. Every so often, the external dynamic ip of the dsl router changes, and dyndns needs to know what the new dynamic ip is so they can route correctly.

I found the free utility on their site to update my dyndns account with the most current router ip address (search for Dyn Update Clients on Domain Name System (DNS) | Oracle ). It runs in the background on my pc and lets them know the new ip address whenever the ip address changes.

My question is, suppose I’m not around when the dynamic ip address changes, so my pc is not connected to the network to keep dyndns updated. How can I find out the router’s external ip address?

It occurs to me that Vera must keep mios informed of this ip address so we can communicate with vera remotely through mios. Is there some way to get vera to tell us the ip address, so we can update the dyndns server manually?

Thanks,

Jim

@gd2356,

Welcome!

Check out this idea.

(BTW, does your router not support updating DynDNS?)

Very clever! Seems like Mios should come up with something a little more formal than this. What if this danasoft signature feature goes away?

I don’t know if my router supports updating Dyndns. It’s an Actiontec 1000 from Century Link (Qwest). I’ll poke around. Is this a normal function for a router? I would think Dyndns would mention how to do it somewhere as well. I know that it didn’t do it the first time the IP number was re-assigned, leaving me to scratch my head til I found the utility to install to update Dyndns.

I’ve attached a jpg of the “Advanced Options” associated with the router. Anything look like it’s worth pursuing? I’ve gone through all the options, and it doesn’t look promising.
