Okay I’ve searched and read the forum and I’m still having trouble assigning the double click on these to control something else.
I’m pretty new to the Vera but I’ve been using the z-cloud web service for a while and not had any issues using that since it’s their firmware on the switches/dimmers etc I’m using it’s not surprising that they work really well together.
What I want to do is take a light switch enable double clicks and then associate the double clicks to something else (With z-cloud this was very easy and worked fine).
This is what I’m doing currently:
I select the light device and go to Advanced Settings. I click ‘Add Configuration Settings’ I enter variable ‘14’ data size ‘1 byte dec’ and assign a desired value of ‘1’ - I understand from the dimmer/switch documentation that this sets the double click to send Switch on, off and Dim using basic set
Then under associations I type ‘2’ in Group ID and then click Add. Then I click Set and select the device I want to control from the drop down list.
I think that should be all I need to do and once I’ve saved my changes and waited a short while if I go back into the settings it shows that the variables I entered are now set and double clicking the Dimmer doesn’t control the local load anymore but neither does it control anything else.
I also have a wall controller and I’ve managed to get that to control the 2 different lights I wanted using single and double clicks using the associations as described above so I’m really not sure why it doesn’t work for the dimmers/switches I’ve tried it on.
So I did a little testing by excluding a light switch and using it and a plugin module on a stand alone network using z-cloud rather than my Vera and from what I can see by setting it up so it works and polling the various variables, is that the method I explained above should work just fine. I was really hoping for one of those ‘oh I’m so stupid’ moments but I’m still completely stuck with this problem.
So to finish my own little thread of only me commenting
I have this working now the above method is okay but it seems there’s a bug with the firmware in these dimmers/switches (v1.4) that causes this. Removing the power to the device momentarily has fixed it (not sure for how long) and now the double click controls other loads.
Hopefully this might help other people searching the forum for this issue.
I noticed that it can be difficult to get special settings in the Vera UI transmitted to Z-wave devices, especially battery powered ones. Sometimes it takes a few tries using “Configure now” and waking up the device, or bouncing the power, for the settings to be actually transmitted.
These things are causing me grief! I have so far installed 6 switches (ZME_06431) and 3 dimmers (ZME_06433), some to replace previous 2-way and 3-way lighting circuits. I find the associations are not stable, especially on remote nodes. After a day or two after a power cycle the associations stop working. However, I can still control all the lights with Vera without issue. I suspect that the fabled automatic heal may be causing problems by trying the reconfigure the nodes all the time but I haven’t got (days of!) time to investigate at the moment. Once the associations are broken, no amount of reconfiguring will get them working again. I’m beginning to think that z-wave automation is like fools gold, but I’ve got to persevere as I’ve now rewired all the lighting circuits!

P.S. As an aside, has anyone found the dimmers a bit flaky on installation. I’ve had to return >50% for replacement due to unstable (flickering) behaviour. I suspect that the modules somehow get damaged when the firmware is updated, which I think is a chip replacement.
