I’m not sure I really understand what the problems are that you’re experiencing - can you provide more information?
What version UI are you using?
Are you getting the list of variables (I guess the comment about a green line is in the config, so I guess you are)?
What happens when you click on the graph screen (assuming you’re on UI4) or the /dm address (assuming you’re on UI5)?
If the number of channels is going from 2 to 0, then it sounds to me like the USB stick may not be properly mapped. The dataMineConfig.json file is saved in the /dataMine directory, but if Vera restarts, then if the USB is not mounted again on startup, then you will loose all your configuration. This is where I would look first - use WinSCP to look at the /dataMine directory and see what’s in there, and possibly restart Vera and see if it’s the same (and check the USB stick to make sure it’s on there).
The setup for dataMine should be significantly simpler when the next version is released (as soon as the Vera software is updated!). It will just require installation of the app in the normal way, formatting a USB drive on Windows (or presumably any other OS), plugging it in and setting a variable. I don’t think I can get it much simpler than that…
The new version should make life a lot easier - I’ve released it so hopefully MCV can approve it tomorrow…
second issue; not how to put a usb into the vera (that will be possible)
but can i just connect a usb divider and will it work?
I’m not 100% sure what happens if you use a USB hub. Vera has 2 USB sockets (at least Vera2 and Vera3 do - I’m not sure what VeraLite has), so unless you have more USB devices, you shouldn’t need a hub. If you have a Vera3, then the instructions in the main dataMine thread should be reasonably straight forward (http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,7750.msg78541.html#msg78541). If you have a VeraLite, then we may need a bit more information on how the USB devices look when plugged in (hopefully someone with a VeraLite with SSH access will be able to help).
So, if you don’t use a hub, you can just format a USB stick on Windows (and probably Mac or Linux), put it into Vera, configure as per the instructions, and it should work (hopefully ;))
A guide for dummies is always good, and thats not to take anything away from the documentaion provided which is really quite excellent, there seems to just be a gap for those of us on Veralites and also the use of a hub.
Which leads me nicely onto sharing that I am using a Veralite, but with the added complexity of a hub in the middle.
As directed I formatted a new USB memory key and it looks to have create a few things in my /dev/ directory, I can see entries for a sda, sda1 and 1-1.3. Then after a reboot I also now have ttyUSB, ptmx and tyyS0 - (I’m using winscp BTW to look into the directory)
I have put /dev/sda1 into both SetMountPoint and MountLoation of the device, but still no variables are being updated.
Without a hub installed, I can say that mount point (/dev/sda1) works.
I seem to remember seeing somewhere in the forum that a different mount point is assigned to each port when using a hub (similar to Vera 3’s sda1 and sda2 for it’s two USB ports). Since /dev/sda1 is the built in port, maybe it is one of the other ones your seeing (ttyUSB,etc…)
I don’t know enough about Linux file system to give you a direct answer. Have you tried enabling USB logging and seeing where Vera mounts the files? Don’t use both USB logging and Datamine logging under same mount point (something about corrupted data and time vortexes), but it should give you an idea of what the mount point looks like. This is how I figured out the mount point on my Vera Lite.
I think the following should work…
Using WinSCP, click on the little Console / “Open Terminal” button and type “fdisk” with the USB unplugged. Then plug in the USB stick, and type “fdisk” again. You should (I hope!) see another drive installed. I’ve never done this with a hub, so I’m not totally sure you don’t get a load more “stuff”, but hopefully it’s obvious which drive is the new one.
Chris, sorry for posting in both places, I thought I had changed the above to remove the duplication with the one i put your main forum posting, but it looks like it reverted it back.
