DSCAlarmPanel : A Restart is required for this setting to take effect

Everything on my system was working fine and one day no more notifications or status text messages.
For some reason my Vera now says: DSCAlarmPanel : A Restart is required for this setting to take effect I don’t know how to restart it. I tried the button on the front of the vera 3, unplugging it.
I don’t recall there being the two tabs under the DSC alarm panel device named IT-100 and Envisalink2ds. I must have missed something somewhere in an update that I didn’t want !!

Help moderators please. Started this issue appx 2 weeks ago I think. Had a crazy flood in the tampa area and not much time to pay attention to this forum lately.

THANKS

On the top right of your browser click reload or if it has Save in red click on that.

However if you are not aware of any changes made, close you browser completely and reporting it.

Also there has been an update to the DSC plugin to Version 0.37. You can see the version from your browser by reviewing APPS > My Apps. If this has been installed or automatically updated, you would have the choice on the DSC Alarm Panel to select either the 2DS or IT100. If you have click on on of the choice you’ll receive that message. On the top right of your browser click Reload and this will rectify your issue.

It is most likely that you received the DSC Plugin update. Newer versions of the UI5 firmware will allow you to select which plugins can auto update and which not to update. As what Brientim said, you will need to select which interface you are using. Once you select the proper interface, you will need to click on the reload button to reload the lua engine.

All I get now is “Device communication failure” I tried the reload tab. I unplugged V3 and unplugged and replugged the USB dongle. No clue what’s going on now. I’m gonna locate a working backup and load that to see what happens.

UPDATE !!

OK, restored unit to last reported notification on July 24th, and everything is communicating as it was.
Should I proceed differently to get this latest version of DSC? Is there any benefit? I have .35 currently.

You should not need to switch off and on your Vera. As this appears to be a result of the auto updating of the plugin, if you reset to an earlier backup, you may find this will occur again. The next firmware version, I believe will deliver the requeted ability to either enable or disable auto updating of a plugin as it was identified very early that for security, this was a concern. That being the case, let’s try and fix the comms error. This error is your Vera is not talking to your dsc interface. You’ll to confirm the setup depending on whether it is an it100 or a 2ds.

This is where you should now return to the thread about the DSC plugin and finish up here. see

And the new firmware has been released today which does allow you to disable auto update plugin updated.

Why can’t they leave stuff alone, it was working fine earlier and now it auto updated again to .37
No matter what I do to get the IT100 selection to take after “Restart required” hitting the reload tab, nothing happens. Ctrl F5 nothing.

Do I delete the DSC .37 app thats installed and reinstall again?

Because the plugin fixes bugs and adds support for the 2DS module.

No, once you have selected the It100 and conducted the reload, you need to configure your connection to your It100 setting e.g. Ip address. If you are not receiving any errors, check to see if it is updating when a sensor is triggered. E.g. Does openning a door display updates on you vera.
If it does, you’ll need to give more details on your connection with your system to enable more advise to be provided.

The IT-100 is connected directly to USB port 1 on the vera3. It is listed ftdi_sio under the serial port configuration. I never had to enter an IP address before. Used by device: DSC Alarm Panel.
It’s not acknowledging any status, open doors or windows etc. Only with prior firmware version it worked fine but not .37

Let me put a quick patch together to address that. I can’t test it, as I only have a 2DS at the moment but it should be possible to catch all the relevant cases… Give me about an hr.

@REALProductionsllc,
I can’t test this right now, but I made a few mods to attempt to better support the upgrade case. Specifically, the changes include:
a) More specific error messages, so we can better differentiate the failure cases for config (we’ll need the exact text that a user sees)
b) Default to IT100 if it’s not otherwise specified, and the user has either an attached Serial Port, or an IP Address specified.
c) Explicitly open the Serial Port if that’s the choice of IT100 attachment

If you want to try this, you can upload the following file via the UI:
http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_dscalarmpanel/export/83/trunk/I_DSCAlarmPanel1.xml

You’ll want to make a backup of your existing file before you do this, and it’s only compatible with the 0.37 version from apps.mios.com.

If you’ve added an IP Address to your config, you’ll need to blank that out after uploading this file (and before you SAVE) since the code assumes to connect on the IP Address if it’s specified (so to did the older code).

Once a few of the regulars have had time to validate it correctly, it’ll be uploaded to apps.mios.com

@strangely, @garrettwp or @brientim: Do you mind checking that your 2DS is still working correctly with this fix, and also try the Serial-Attached IT100?

Will do when I get home from work.

I’ll load the files on my Vera lite to test the 2ds. As for the IT-100, I can not test the serial connectivity as the device it hooked up via wiznet ip to serial adapter. So it would have to use the ip route and not the serial port route.

No worries, whatever you’re able to checkout is great. I do rudimentary tests on the 2DS and UI5 combo.

@Guessed, I uploaded the file you attached and when it reloaded, the DSC alarm device was gone. Do I have to go into the advanced area to manually create new device like I did the first time I got it working on the old firmware? As I mentioned, the DSC disappeared so I just restored to a backup which had .35 on it. I’ll just wait until you guys, the masters, have figured it out. I wish I was more help but it’s getting over my head again. I need the notifications working with my DSC since I have a non monitored system, and that’s my only way to know if somethings up here at the home.

DAMN IT, it caught up to me that fast and updated me to .37 again, I didn’t know it would do it that fast. >:(
The message I get in the top window after auto updating says: Luup : Failed to download all plugins. Will retry in 10 minutes.

Thank You, R.

Disabling Auto update from apps.mios.com isn’t something we can control just yet. The hooks are in the store, but all the UI5 Vera units need to upgrade to it (not yet a production firmware) for the feature to work. I’ve gone head and set the DSC plugin to not auto-update for when that day occurs.

The change I made is just a patch. It changes the implementation file and does not require any reinstall/recreation of the Alarm Panel device. If you have 0.37 from apps.mios.com, then the file simply overlays the file from that release (all other files are unchanged). The Save/Restart will cause Vera to pickup the change.

The Failed to Download Plugins message is oming from the Vera unit having trouble contacting the MiOS apps servers for some reason.

Vera 3 1.5.408 and 2DS functioned fine. All updating of zone were working etc. No issues encountered as far as I could establish
Ver 2 1.5.346 and IT100 usb/serial connection. Initial installed updated and displayed zone label etc. As per comments from REALProductionsllc “It’s not acknowledging any status, open doors or windows etc”.
It does display error:
"DSCAlarmPanel : DSC Panel is not configured. IT-100 configuration is incomplete, please configure IP Address or associate a MiOS Serial Port? The new implementation file removed this.

I’ve updated to firmware 1.5.408 same, same. Log emailed.
