DSC Troubleshooting

I have a DSC 1864 connected with an IT-100. It worked previously but I had an issue where the Serial Ports were no longer recognized by the VERA. After a trouble ticket they seem to be working again. The DSC Alarm Panel sees the port, but nothing seems to be working. Where should I begin with troubleshooting? As near as I can tell everything seems to be correct, but something is obviously off. Thanks so much!

  • Any messages in the status window?
  • Where did you install the plugin from and which version?
  • Can you confirm the serial port works in a PC?
  • Do you have any other USB devices, and are you using a powered USB hub?
  • Are you sure the connections are all good?

Are you able to SSH into your Vera to grab some logs? You’ll also want to make sure verbose logging is enabled anyway.

No Messages in the status window
I can’t remember if I got the plugin off the apps tab or it was emailed to me. It is version 0.37
I cannot confirm the serial port works on a laptop. How can I do that with a MAC?
No other USB devices and I have a powered HUB, but don’t have it connected presently
The connections should be fine. I recently did them. How could I check?

Thanks

Tim

Strangely,

I forgot I had a USB Flash drive connected to the VERA during troubleshooting. It had recognized that, not the IT-100. That makes me doubt the IT-100. Is there a better option?

I think the app store version is 0.38, so you might want to update to that.

I don’t have a MAC, but I would assume it should be auto-detected and have a driver for it? If so then you could see if you can directly communicate with the IT100 (there’s a thread with some instructions for this somewhere).

No other USB devices and I have a powered HUB, but don't have it connected presently.

Maybe try it since if you are using a V. Lite or V3, the stock power supply isn’t really powerful enough to support some USB devices.

Do you have a cable in-between? if so disconnect it and try to plugin directly.

So did it work after removing it and reloading? If so, then see my previous post about the power supply.

As far as if there’s anything better then you could either use a serial to IP converter such as a WIZnet to connect it via Ethernet… although there is slightly more setup of this (really needs a Windows PC to do it). Alternatively you could use an Envisalink EVL 3 which purely interfaces via IP and would replace the IT100 altogether.
