DSC Panel, Zones and Partition 1

HI all,

New to the forums and had a newbie question…

I just bought a vera 3 lite and to my suprise after connecting it to my network under my devices I find a series of “alarm devices” call - DSC alarm Panel with no buttons and then a zeries of zones (1-6 with an Arm and Bypass selection) and then a Partition 1 selection with the options of Arm, Force, Stay, Disarm)…

Does this mean I got lucky… and I have the equipment I need to integrate my alarm into my vera 3??? Do I need any additional equipment… I am so excited I can barely type…

Thanks! ???

A new, unused, Vera should come up with no devices…

In order to get the DSC, you’d have to install the interconnects (IT100 Serial/Ethernet or 2DS/Ethernet) and then install the DSC Plugin. By default, the DSC Plugin will create a bunch of [non functioning] “default” children, until it’s been configured per the instructions on the Website.

So if its showing up… it doesnt mean the interconnects are already installed? Where do I find this (IT100 Serial/Ethernet or 2DS/Ethernet) equipment? Is this something I can do myself or do I need to call the alarm company?

So if its showing up... it doesnt mean the interconnects are already installed?
Nope. As I said above, in a new/unused Vera you'll get a blank slate and have to explicitly choose to add the DSC Plugin: http://apps.mios.com/plugin.php?id=114 http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_dscalarmpanel

If you have an Alarm company monitoring your [compatible?] DSC Alarm Panel, you’ll want to contact them to ensure you aren’t breaking and contractual arrangements you have with them. Other than that, if you’re ok with rudimentary wiring, it’s fairly easy to attach the required interface devices.

See the discussions in the forum thread first, as a lot of this is already covered:

I’m not sure the question was answered… You said in a “new/unused Vera you’ll get a blank slate and have to explicitly choose to add the DSC Plugin” but right now without doing anything its already in the my devices section of the vera software. I didnt add it… Its already there. I see 6 different zones and the panel already listed???

thanks for all the help!

The implication being that, unless you asked your supplier to do it, your unit has been used/setup before.

You will need to contact your supplier about why this is the case. It’s no harm, and the unit can be reset to factory, but it’s not clear to me why anyone would ever get one with plugins pre-installed - unless they asked their supplier to do that.

Guessed is correct. Thereshould be NO devices listed, unless you enrolled them. Even at that, for the alarm intergration, someone had to have installed the plugin. They are not there from factory settings
