DSC 1832

I’m moving into a new house and would like install my own security system. I have searched the forum and found some useful information. I plan on using wireless sensors for everything except the keypad and siren.
I’m looking at the following

-KIT32-219 - DSC Power 1832 Wireless Ready Security Kit
-EVL-3 - Envisalink Internet Alert Module for DSC & Honeywell Security
-EV-DW4975 - Vanishing Wireless Door Window Sensor

Some questions

  1. Do I have to pay for monitoring or can I just have it alert me via the EVL-3?
  2. Other than connecting it to my router, how do I integrate it with the Vera?
  3. Am I missing anything?

Thanks

In order:

  1. You don’t need to have it monitored.
  2. Ummmmmmm
  3. Yep. This DSC Alarm Panel and this http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/board,44.0.html

That being said, I urge you to get the 1864 as it can accommodate twice the number of zones. You might find that you use up your 32 device slots pretty fast. Especially using wireless devices which can only be one to a zone.

go with the 64. I just did a napco to dsc conversion with the 1832 but i have a bunch of wired sensors. The EVL-3 will be wired in as a keypad and connect to router and install plug in and you are good to go. Its very easy

I have the same system, there is a DSC plugging that let you integrate it with vera.

If you have Iphone, you can use automator, to get push notifications that will work as monitoring for your alarm. What I did is make scenes for this notification, like alarm armed, alarm disarmed, system in alarm, kitchen door open etc.

I also use the Vera with a scene that at determinate hour at night to set up the alarm in stay mode, and to deactivate in the morning.

Please let me know if you need help

Thank you all for the suggestions. I’m thinking about ordering from homesecuritystore.com Is this a good place to order from? Any other suggestions? Thanks

That’s where I’ve ordered from. If you have pre sales questions just call them. The rep I spoke to helped me iron out any last details.

Suggestions? Ha ha! I recently asked the same thing before I bought my DSC gear!

I will quote the response I got from guessed:

a) Minimize the # of Network components between the EVL-3 and Vera.
These should be on the same [wired] switch. Other combinations will work, since it’s just networking, but increasing the # of components increases the complexity… and overall likelihood to need to debug something down the road.

b) Get ready for an explosion of Devices on Vera…
 Normal rules apply, USB Logging (etc) are preventative measures since you’ll be increasing the # of devices, and associated automation/scenes, on Vera by a fair amount once you have this running (and they’ll expand further as you add Alarm Sensors for even more stuff than you can think of now)

c) You can always expand later.
Don’t worry too much about going “big” out of the gate, you can always add later. This is mostly about sensors, as once you have this in the house you’ll find all sorts of new places you “could have” placed a sensor to automate something… 8)[/quote]

Just placed my order for my gear. They are offering 10% off. Saved 50 bucks!

Yeah. I picked up on that 10% off myself to scoop up a few more doo dads. Should have ordered more though as it was under their free shipping amount. So I almost got free shipping.

Best of luck! If you have any more questions please just ask away.
