Driving me crazy - Suddenly can't add new devices with Veralite

Hey guys, please help me.

I have had a veralite for over a year… works well. Most of the devices I have (a few locks and smart energy switches… about 6 in total) I added a year ago… and now I’m doing a 2nd round of adding devices, but I am running into trouble: I can’t add new devices with my veralite.

Here is what’s happening:

This is the product I am trying to add: Aeon Labs DSC06106-ZWUS - Z-Wave Smart Energy Switch
(and for context, I added the same switch to my network a year ago and it works fine)

  1. I plug in the Aeon Labs switch into an electrical outlet… it starts blinking a blue light on its single button.
  2. I unplug my veralite, press the battery button for two seconds… and wait until the blue light is solid and orange light is flashing.
  3. I press the + button for ~1 second. The orange light goes off for about 2 seconds, then it comes back on and starts flashing again.
  4. While the veralite is ~1 foot away from the energy switch, I push the blue-flashing button on the switch… nothing happens. The veralite doesn’t respond at all and the energy switch keeps blinking. I’ve tried various distances besides just ~1 foot away.

I’ve also tried repeating the above but with the veralite plugged in to the wall within a few feet of the energy switch… no difference.

Am I forgetting something obvious? When I added devices a year ago… everything added just fine, usually worked on the first try.

When I plug the veralite back into my network, I am able to operate all of my existing z-wave devices, so it’s not obvious that anything is wrong with the unit.

Finally… I’m not really up to speed on the whole UI5/UI6/UI7 stuff… could that have something to do with this?

Instead of doing the blind include on battery, try plugging the Aeon device in next to Vera and watch what is happening in your browser.

Also, you should probably do an exclude before you do an include.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I also had no response when trying to do an exclude…

The watching-in-browser idea is interesting. I’ve never used the browser to add a device… what/where should I be watching exactly? (and do you mean logging into the interface that goes through Vera’s central servers?)

Vera will tell you what’s happening at the top of the web GUI screen, whether its found the device or not or if there are errors.

Devices → Add Devices → Advanced add Z-Wave devices then do a full power exclude then include.

OK thanks, will give that a shot!
