Hi,
I am thinking of installing a driveway gate opener in the near future. I was looking at a Mighty Mule.
What are the options available in order to operate the gate through Vera ?
Thanks.

The only method of Z-waving any gate is to hack the controller with the addition of a Dry Contact Single relay. To my knowledge there is no Z-Wave Gate Controller available, if it was then the cost would most likely be astronomical.
Generally, most gate and garage door controllers have an external connector for a PB switch or similar.
It’s easy to add a single dry contact relay such as a https://www.blackcatcontrolsystems.com.au/In-Wall-Switch-Controllers/Black-Cat-Controllers/Black-Cat-ZWBCL1-Single-Relay-in-Wall-Controller which has a auto off.
Set up the auto off to 1-2 secs and you have your Z-Wave enabled Gate controller.
You will need to find your Z-Way relay first, just make sure it has dry contacts.
We make kits that will let you control any gate as long as it has inputs that will trigger the gate to both open and close.
Most any gate made these days has many inputs for this purpose.
When an electric gate motor is installed correctly there are plenty of safety triggers that are also needed to be installed like vehicle occupancy sensors, so the gate does not close on a car and gate sensors, so the motor knows what status the gate is in, just to name a few. These sensors all use these auxiliary inputs.
You can also use these extra inputs to tell the gate to open or close. They are usually just a NO (Normally Open) trigger.
The kits we sell convert Z-Wave into a NO trigger to trigger your gate motor as well as give you the status of the gate. (Open or Closed)
You can check them out here.
Thanks. I will look at it.
