Downgrading to UI4

Having nothing but headaches with UI5. Appears to be written by someone that used to work at Microsoft; ‘Let’s get it out the door and worry about making it work later’. I can not find any firmware for UI4. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you give us an idea what your issues are maybe we can help you with this problems. What model Vera do you have? If you have a Vera 3 or Vera Lite, there is no UI4 available for the device. UI5 is your only option.

After a painful week I will try to downgrade my Vera 2 as well.

Minor issues like the reverted roller shutter functions or the problems with the IP cams can be managed. What really sucks is that the device gets unreliable. In the middle of a scene it stops working and needs a reboot.

It would be fair if MCV clearly stated that the Vera 2 hardware is not sufficient to run UI5.

It probably depends on how much stuff (Z-Wave devices, non Z-Wave devices / plug-ins, scenes) a current user has on V2/UI4.

Adding a usb drive for logs and adding a swap file would help as well.

You are right but this would have been an usefull information.

I’m back on UI4 now. My Vera’s lights were blinking and glowing in a very different way during the process than in the manuals described but I reseted the device successfully. In a Mac household this procedure is really challenging.

My conclusion is that UI5 is a great step forward. Especially the new dashboard holds valuable information I do miss in UI4.

My advice to Vera2 owners: Don’t touch your running Vera!

True. I did bring it up with MCV (on the beta board during initial testing of UI5), but it may be hard to come up with good way to assess what is ‘too much stuff’.

It appears some folks upgraded because of device support; notably the Aeon MiniMote.

I hope that they will have a better experience than I had…

I have a MiniMote sitting on my desk gathering dust because I am afraid to “upgrade” my Vera 2 to UI5 due to all the horror stories. I know the MiniMote is a reason many users “upgraded” to UI5. I wish UI5 would get reasonably stable so I could use my MiniMote.

UI5 is very stable and reliable on VeraLite. Vera2 is underpowered to run UI5 for most applications. I don’t think this will ever change.
I would highly recommend upgrading the VeraLite. It made a huge difference for me in terms of stability and speed.
You can sell your old Vera2 on ebay to recover some of the upgrade cost.
