Doorbell using Fibaro window/door sensor

Good Evening all

I have been testing a hard wired door bell using the Fibaro window/door sensor and i have got it working 95% but there is a slight issue am unable to resolve myself.

I am using a 12v relay, I have attached diagram for this.

I have wired 1 + 5 on relay to the fibaro sensor. Wired 2 + 9 to the chime connections 1 + 2 which is the same as the push button.

When you push the button you clearly see that it activates the sensor in vera but it doesnt disengage the relay to change the status of the sensor from Red man when button pushed back to green man. I have managed to work out if i just hold the wire from the relay to the chime and press the push button it trips the sensor within vera but then if remove wire from contact the sensor returns to green man status as planned.

You need to connect the relay coil across the chime solenoid not the bell-push. It’s hard to see from the photo but it looks like chime terminals (0) and (3) may be where the solenoid is connected. Look for wires coming out of the plastic housing.

I have tried that and the only way the sensor will report to tripped in vera is connecting the relay to the push bell connectors. Its strange i know.

Are you really using a [b]12V[/b] relay? Your four batteries are only going to give you 6V!

This is a theory: When you connect your relay coil across the bell-push, it gets an inductive [i]kick[/i] from the chime solenoid which is enough to operate the coil. Once the relay is closed, it will probably hold on with 6V across it.

You should have more luck with a 6V relay.

Yes its a 12v relay. I have also removed batteries and tried wiring up per diagram for the chime for using mains power with a 12v transformer and the bell works when you wire up to 0 and 3 but no matter what way you wire up the relay this way it will no trip the sensor.

I have a 5v relay if that will work? The 6v relays should be hear by monday

I used a different Z-wave device but it should work with the Fibaro door sensor as long as you do away with the magnetic contact part and just use the sensor and the dry contact input etc.

My door chime unit used a total of 6v batteries so I used a 6v relay.

The new 6v relays arrived and wired them up like Rexbeckett said and works a treat :slight_smile:

Hi, sorry for the newbie question, my doorbell does not uses batteries, it is wired at 120 v to the house. The “bell” that is more like a buzz, is very small. What kind of relay do I need?

That’s impossible to answer without more info. What would help is: Make/model; Photos showing inside and connections of bell/buzzer; Photos of any other module (like transformer) that is part of the circuit; Photos of any rating labels on the components.

Any 120V relais (NC type) will do if you do as Rex suggested in a post earlier connecting it to the solenoid i stead of the button.

But a photo would probably help alot :slight_smile:

@Vreo, my doorbell is also wired into the house. It is a Nutone BK125LWH-1 that uses a C905 transformer that has a 16V 10A rating. So you might want to check your doorbell and see if it has a transformer also.

Thank you all. I am having a difficult week starting today, but I will try next weekend to dig a little bit more, at plain sight (or near) I see no transformer or anything. The bell is in a sealed enclosure, so I have to be carefull not to break it. I will try to barrow a multimeter to see if I can measure the input voltage when the button is pressed. I will let you know.

Hello, I want to connect my standard doorbell to my Z-Wave network, just to receive a notification when someone push the ring button when I’m not at home. As I live in a building, with two doorbells, one downstairs and one at the door I want to know if it’s possible to connect them both to my z-wave. The two of them buzz in this intercom that connects to this board.

My question is if somehow I can connect my fibre door sensor to this board, I know that using fibre as dry contact I loose the other function but I need this. As I don’t understand much of electronic I need some help doing this, I have a Multimeter/Voltimeter/Amperimeter and with your help I can do this.

I also disassembled the doorbell button to see the wires, there are just two of them, one black and another white, in the intercom I take another picture for you to see there are a ‘junction’ of two wires, black/white.

I’m afraid that I cannot see from the wiring diagram what voltages would be present on the different terminals when the bell button is pressed. Without this, I cannot suggest a solution.

There is no way I can test myself with an voltmeter if you explain too me how to do it?

I don’t think that is going to work. Can you consult the manufacturer or installer of the door-control system?
