My door sensor works great except I get the notice “smoke detected in Living Room” when it’s opened. It’s a door sensor, not a smoke detector. It’s an Everspring EVS-HSM02-US.
In vera it’s setup as a door sensor with “Armed/Disarmed” mode. It works fine and there’s no indication that the device was setup improperly other than the smoke detected alert. How do I change the alert from “smoke detected” to “door opened”?

Weird, in the vera UI it looks like a door contact also, not a round smoke?
VERA alerts allows custom messages, that’s what I use but this shouldn’t be needed for this case.
Correct. It’s a door contact. Usually I add new devices as “generic z-wave device” since a lot of devices don’t show in the list but I’ve never had a problem doing this. Maybe it was registered initially as a “smoke sensor” and it figured out it was a door sensor later on? Where would I go to set a custom name? That’s the only problem I’m having with it.
I only use Generic device during setup and I always recommend that. Don’t think that is your issue.
The custom names and alerts are not a factory option in VERA.
Vera Alerts is a plugin and has a one time fee associated. I use it for a multitude of options but one is to set custom alerts for my more then one VERAs. For example at the vacation house vs. my house each with several doors, door locks and such. Custom message can replace the stock message to so say anything I choose. “Arizona Front Door Opened” vs. Just “Front Door Opened” that I might use at my everyday house.
