When I manually turn a z-wave light on or off, is the vera2 meant to listen to the status change that the switch broadcasts, or is it only going to know that the state has change when it next polls the switch? It seems to me like on my system it takes a while for the vera2 to notice that the state has changed, which leads me to think it is only polling. In which case, my question is, why doesn’t it listen to get a live update?

Some devices do not provide an update when the state is changed locally. If they do, Vera should see it. If not, Vera polls to find out.
I know my switches send their changes out (ACT ZDM230), but the vera2 takes 3-4 minutes to notice that a light has changed. From what you say, that doesn’t sound right. Is there any setting that might be turning off the listening?

I have several GE dimmer switches, single and 3 way. The singles and the primary/master of the 3 ways are instantly updated in Vera when manually switched. The auxiliary takes up to a minute to reflect manual changes.
Most other devices I’ve tried (GE lamp/appliance) seem instant.
Leviton switches are instant. But not all zwave devices provide instant feedback. You can blame Lutron for that one. They went after the companies for instant feedback on switches.
earlier act devices have instant notification. I’m not sure of current devices though- i think i’ve read act took it away from threat of lawsuit but i’m not certain.
some devices i have that dont officially have it are cannily picked up by vera almost but NOT ALL the time. (intermatic light switch as an example).
I know for a fact that my ACT devices send instant notification. I know that because I have monitored the z-wave traffic using a z-wave dongle on my PC, and I can see the messages. By the vera2 still doesn’t update the switch state.
Any idea what I can do?
