I have just seen this camera on the Foscam website, and like the idea of the optical zoom. Does this camera work with Vera ?
Hi mikee,
I purchased one a month or two back and managed to get it working.
Have a look at this post:

Couple issues I have.
- For some reason, I can’t set any of the presets via the focam camera interface, none work. I thought they worked when I first installed, but can’t remember for sure.
- When viewing the camera on the Vera dashboard, ptz works fine, but when you click on the “full zcreen” button, you lose the image, so can only view within the large thumbnail (vera lite, ui5).
Other than that, has worked fine for me.

- That is because the presets are not numbered, they are named. You can use the advanced tab in a scene to set the “GoToPreset” and specify the preset name you want.
- I also lose the full screen image 90% of the time. It shows up after 30+ second most of the time. Sorry I don’t have a fix…but glad it’s just not me.
I’ve attached the XML implementation file for pan/zoom/preset (when named)
I also loose the full screen picture on my Foscam HD camera (9818W), it works on the 8910W which is SD so I guess is an issue with the HD versions
Hi AgileHumor,
Thanks for your reply, question for you if you don’t mind…
The xml file you mention below is the one I am using. I also opened both up to compare just to make sure, and the contents are identical.
My issue is that the presets are not working even in the Foscam web viewer (accessed just by the IP address in IE, and tried Chrome and Firefox too).
The four default presets, TopMost, BottomMost, LeftMost and RightMost, also are not working.
I can add a new preset by clicking the add button, entering a name, then clicking the checkmark, but the camera still does not ever go to that preset when clicked.
I would think I need to get the presets working from within the Foscam viewer before they would work from within Vera.
My next idea was to do a factory reset, but I was hoping I could figure something out without doing that.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Chris B.
Hi all,
Quick update.
In the Foscam “settings”, I changed these couple settings and now the presets work:
Start-up Options: Go to Preset position
Preset Selection:
Once I did that, rebooted, all my presets are working, and also work in the Vera interface.
Strange, but glad they’re working now.
Thanks,
Chris B.

Do you guys happen to know if the FI9826P is the same as the FI9826W? It looks like the same camera with a couple of new software features like plug and play and the QR scanner but I would guess it is the same hardware. Anyone knows?

Hi TunedIn, I just bought a FI9826W and am getting desperate, after many many hours of frustration trying to get it connected to my new Vera Edge. The link in your message seems VERY important but is no longer available:
“Have a look at this post:
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=142199”
Do you have any other link or information that could point me (and so many others I guess) in the right direction? MANY THANKS
Hi Machiel692,
I managed to get my FI9826W working just fine, albeit after a few hours of tooling around.
You need to install the Foscam plugin and create a device. Put in the mac id, ip address, port, username and pass.
Also, be sure to use the following:
device type: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:2
ip: x.x.x.x:port
device file: D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml
impl_file: I_Foscam98HD.xml
URL variable: /cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=&pwd=&t=
DirectStreamingURL: /cgi-bin/CGIStream.cgi?cmd=GetMJStream&usr=&pwd=
p.s. I couldn’t get the camera recognized until I had the proper URL format.
Hope this steers you in the right direction.
Anyone know if the FI9826P will work with the same settings? (Thinking of buying one unless I find a better option).
quote:
"The Foscam FI9826P follows on from the Foscam FI9821W supporting the all NEW Foscam web interface, allowing for all features to be compatible with every standard browser, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Apple’s Safari. The Foscam FI9826P adopts a high performance media processor and high speed video protocol processor making it capable of H.264 video compression for extremely smooth video transmission, increased FPS and minimal bandwidth consumption. In addition, due to the small file sizes produced by H.264 video compression it has the ability to save tremendous hard drive space when doing video recording.
Furthermore, the Foscam FI9826P also features a built-in DVR via the on-board micro SD Card slot for direct recording on the camera itself up to 32GB*."

Hello Big Moose,
Thanks a lot for your feedback, this may help me in the right direction. Like you I have tooled around for hours, yet to no avail. I’m currently not in the position to try and use your suggestions (will be able to do that tomorrow) but additional to your suggestions:
- what Vera Controller are you using? I am using the VeraEdge (as a rather new device) but maybe you have managed to get it working on the Vera 3?
- previously I managed to install the Foscam app (I assume that is the same as the Foscam plugin) but could not create a device: when clicking “create a device” it reported successful creation but no device is visible, so I added the FI9826W manually, hence the settings that I reported.
- what port did you use: 80 (http) or 443 (https). Both work for me in the browser connection but with the VeraEdge the difference may be significant.
- Especially thanks for the URL setting. The addition ‘&t=’ after the password is new to me.
I will report back tomorrow once I have been able to try your suggestions, many thanks again!

I am running a Vera3 on UI5, but I can’t imagine a huge diff. between UI5 & UI7 for this purpose - although ya never know.

Don’t know if this is specific to your issue, but I ran into the same problem with another device I was setting up and and discovered a device variable in “advanced” called onDashboard. It must be set to 1 for the device to show within the interface.
- what port did you use: 80 (http) or 443 (https). Both work for me in the browser connection but with the VeraEdge the difference may be significant.
I changed my ports right after first boot of the camera :). In the high four figures.
- Especially thanks for the URL setting. The addition '&t=' after the password is new to me.
Not sure the “t=” has any bearing, since the parameter is null. However, most documentation I found had “user” for “usr”, which cost me about 30 minutes ![]()
As a side note: if anyone is looking for brand specific camera stream URL’s, this site proved very useful: Complete Foscam IP Camera Setup Guide - ONVIF, RTSP and Tutorial Included (replace n with your brand of camera, eg: n=TrendNet)
Cheers

Nope, can’t get the machine working.
Here are all my settings:
The Foscam FI9826W has been properly installed and works independent of the VeraEdge. I can access the FI9826W with external applications on desktops and smartphone apps.
Here is my setup of the Foscam FI9826W:
System Firmware version: 1.4.1.9
App Firmware version: 2.11.1.10
Plug-In version: 3.0.0.1
1 administrator account
configured for https access, with IP address: 192.168.178.69
UPnP activated
DDNS activated
Mail and FTP connections configured (they work)
Video Main stream type: 0
Resolution: 720p
Bit rate: 2M
Frame rate: 30
Key frame interval: 30
Activate video mask: no
Motion detection activated
Sounds all pretty standard for the FI9826W.
Then the VeraEdge:
First, I downloaded these couple files I found in other posts:
D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.json
D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml
I_Foscam98HD.xml
Uploaded them to luup files under “Apps / Develop Apps” tab.
Then I managed to have the FI9826W camera added as a device and applied the following settings:
On the Settings tab in VeraEdge:
‘Device name’ and ‘Assigned to room’: just entered some data (so it is assigned to a room), nothing special
Username and password: entered the correct data
On the Advanced Settings tab:
name: Foscam
device_type: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:DigitalSecurityCamera:2
altid:
ip: 192.168.178.69:443 (is ‘443’ for the portnumber correct or should it be ‘80’? I have tried both but it doesn’t make a difference)
mac: the macID that is on the bottom sticker of my Foscam
manufacturer:
model:
id_parent: 0
none of ‘embedded’, ‘disabled’, ‘restricted’ or ‘nobulk’ boxes is ticked
device_file: D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.xml
id: 12
room: 1
time_created: 1418656610
username: filled in
password: filled in
category_num: 6
device_json: D_DigitalSecurityCamera2.json
impl_file: I_Foscam98HD.xml
local_udn: uuid:4d494342-5342-5645-000c-xxxxxxxxxxxx (where I replaced only here the last digits with ‘x’ because I wasn’t sure if this number is maybe security sensitive)
VARIABLES:
URL: /cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=&pwd=&t=
Commands: camera_full_screen,camera_left,camera_right,camera_up,camera_down,camera_preset,camera_archive_snapshot,camera_zoom_in,camera_zoom_out
Timeout: 5
ModeSetting: 1:A;2:A;3:A;4:A
Armed: 1
CommFailure: -1
CommFailureTime: 1418656618
DirectStreamingURL: /cgi-bin/CGIStream.cgi?cmd=GetMJStream&usr=&pwd=
StepSize: 1
ReverseControls: 0
LastUpdate: 0
These are all the settings and all I get is a small blue picture with a question mark in the Live tab (and a ‘Not connected’ message in the overall device overview).
Getting kind of desperate…
A few other things to try:
-
in the cam, change your insecure port from 80 to a much higher number and obviously make the change in your Vera device as well to reflect the new port number.
-
try loading the VistaCam SD, PT & HD for UI5 app and create a new device from that. Then change the device xml’s in vistacam back to DigitalSecurityCamera:2 and foscam98hd.
-
ensure that the mac id is complete using colons - validate that the mac address on the bottom of the cam is the same as the camera reports on your network
I have a FI9828W working fine on my veralite with UI7. The settings you have look good except what someone mentioned earlier with the “&t=” at the end of your URL.
The only other difference I can see is that you are trying to use ports 80 and 443. Mine was 88 by default so try that (since my cam is a little newer than yours).
If that does not work, do what I did. Download this open source camera software called iSpy (stay with me…there is a point to this). Once you install it, go through the camera setup wizard. There is a URL scanner on that software that helped me track down the the streaming URL’s for the cam and the exact port.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Big Moose!! Changing the port number did the trick!!! Unbelievable, but I’m really happy that it finally works, thanks to all your suggestions! This is really great and thanks a lot for your help. PTZ is not working yet through the Vera interface (and maybe it never will) but I think other people have looked into this as well so I may find a clue on the Forum somewhere. By the way: I could install the Vistacam SD, PT & HD app but couldn’t get a device installed (this failed repeatedly so apparently does not work in UI7). Nevertheless, the port change worked!!
Glad it worked out! Let us know if you get PTZ working on UI7 - it works fine on UI5 and that would be another reason for me to forego the upgrade.
Cheers
Does anyone know the exact url comand to arm and disarm the 26w? I want to create a scene to disarm it. I can always go into a separate app but I would prefer to do it from vera
Not sure if it will work, but you can try this:
/set_alarm.cgi?motion_armed=1&user=&pwd=
or
/set_alarm.cgi?motion_armed=1&usr=&pwd=
parameter: motion_armed
motion detection unarmed = 0
armed = 1
