Disable On/Off of a Module

Hi all,

First of all, I could have sworn I came across a similar posting here last year, but after a bunch of searching I can’t find it.

Anyway, I will try to be somewhat brief. I have my home server plugged into an Aeon Smart Energy relay module, which is in turn plugged into a UPS to provide standby power in case of a power outage.

My rationale for putting the server on that switch was so that if the server ever hard locks and I’m away from home, I could toggle it Off and then back On to maybe get it running again. I used the Aeon Smart module since I thought it would be interesting to keep tabs on how many watts the server is drawing.

Anyway, I haven’t had any problems but I keep cringing every time I scroll through my list of devices needing to switch one off (especially on my iPhone) because I’m afraid one of these days I’m going to “fat finger” the one for my server accidentally. While not guaranteed to be catastrophic, you never want to do that to a server unless you have to because data could be lost or corrupted in the process.

So what I want to know is there any way via the Vera interface (or LUUP or whatever) that I can temporarily disable the ability to toggle the power on that particular module (including responding to scenes). Then, if I find myself in the rare instance of actually needing to power it off and back on, I could reverse whatever I did to disable the module so that I could control it again.

Does that make sense? I am on a Vera2 with UI4 if that’s relevant. Thanks a ton for any tips.

The consensus from the last time that this was discussed is: no, you can’t disable the power on/off feature.

Thanks for the info futzle, even though that’s not what I wanted to hear! Oh well.
