Difficulties setting up GE45601 using UI5

Hi all. Newbie here – I just installed a Vera Lite and am trying to get it to work with my GE45601 Remote. I’ve seen some discussion of setting up this remote, but nothing related to UI5.

I understand that you have to set up scenes to turn on/off the lights, and then the remote can be used to control those scenes. I’ve successfully set up scenes in Vera to operate house lights, and I’ve also been able to get Vera to recognize my GE Remote by going through the transfer/receive process. What I can’t make happen is to connect the scenes and the remote using the Vera portal. In other discussion on this board I’ve seen discussions of needing to go into the “events” tab and make some changes there – but in UI5 there doesn’t appear to be an events tab anywhere.

Any instructions/tips that can be provided would be greatly appreciated!

@motoindc,

Welcome!

It’s the [tt]Triggers[/tt] tab in UI5, when editing a scene, where you can tell Vera to have a button press on the GE remote run the scene.

Choose [tt]A scene is activated[/tt] as the event, and put the button number in the [tt]Which scene number[/tt] field.

Another thing to do, after setting up the triggers (for “a scene is activated”) is to re-include the remote. Vera will say something like “found an existing node” and then “transferring scenes.” The remote must be close to Vera when doing the include, since I think the scene transfer occurs at low power. I have had issues if it i even like 5 feet away.

After I do that, the remote can talk directly to devices, which makes it much faster.

And in my quick test just now, it automatically does the “off” correctly, without programming it. However, I have Leviton switches that I just tested, so that could make a difference.

Thank you very much for this information – I did finally get it working! The question I have now is whether I have to set up separate scenes to turn the lights off and on. I set up my bedrooms lights under Scene 1, and on the GE Remote the number 1 button has both an on and and off side. But it seems that instead of using that functionality, I have to set up a separate scene under a separate button to turn the lights off. That’s a pretty clumsy solution, so I’m hoping it’s not the only way to do it…

I just set up an “On” scene, and the remote seemed to take care of the rest, but that’s probably b/c they are Leviton plugs. shrug

You can set up associations for the buttons, click the wrench (for the remote), then “Device Options” tab.
For button 1, enter “1” (without the quotes) for “Group ID”, then click “Add Group”. Next, click “Set” and click the checkmark for whichever devices you want. Click the “X” to dismiss the dialog, then hit “Save”

Wait for everything to restart, then re-include the controller (again), and I think it will be programmed.

Nice!

If the scene just has dimmer and switches, like you described, then all you have to do is create an [tt]On[/tt] scene and then re-include the remote. This transfers the scene information to the remote. Because of that, the remote will now control the devices directly, and the [tt]Off[/tt] side of the button will work as well.

I am having some issues as well. I can turn lights on in a scene but when i hit the off button for that scene it does not work. If I hit the all off button the lights turn off. I have created two seperate scenes and assigned to the same button. One to turn the lights on and one to turn the lights off. I have tried:

But it did not work for me. Any suggestions?? thanks

You cannot do a “scene off” with this remote. Vera has no way of knowing which off button was pressed, so they don’t work. Try removing the office scene, and re-including the remote.

Thanks “PurdueGuy” for the help… I deleted the off scene but still had some issues. It was hard to see the display of the remote where I have vera setup. I noticed that sometimes the re-include would fail. If I just repeated the include it was successful.

I can include it at a distance, but if it’s too far away, I’ll get “Scene transfer failed.”
