Detect crash and Automatic restart

I never had a crash with Veralite, lucky? But when I leave house for vacations, is it a way to be sure that Vera will restart after the crash? Like a watch dog system? (Ping, no response, restart).

Thanks, chris

Well… This might be a whole lot of overkill but if you have a computer on what might make for a good solution is to configure a PC operate either it’s own zwave USB stick … or INSTEON PLM and then have a single zwave/INSTEON appliance module registered to the PC. Then you simply run a simple cron job that periodically tests the http session on the Vera… If Vera is down / unresponsive it would trigger the appliance module (that the Vera needs to be plugged into) to turn off, wait 5 mins and repower the Vera.

Down side is having to keep a PC powered on… Tho with the use timed power on/off features you could do the following.

Have the PC set to boot every 1/2 hour
Do it’s Vera wake up test
If up the set wake up time for 30 minutes later and power off
If down reboot Vera by controlling the appliance module the set a new bout time 30 later and power down.

Put Vera’s Plugpack on a standard timer, and Vera will restart every day at the same time (or less often if you have a better timer).

It’s cheap, it works consistently and without need for any intervention… as long as Vera reboots correctly.
