I’m not a developer… but I work with some. I’m having a site put together now, and the developer suggested we can use a Creative Commons license to use icons found on the internet. I thought it might be worth looking into if it adds value to the app.
I’ve looked at this at some point. The problem is that including icons under a CC ShareAlike or non-commercial license in a commercial, closed source app is a bit iffy.
A solution would be to allow downloading of icon packs, and then simply offer those packs on the HomeWave website. The way I see it, the downloadable packs constitute a separate work, which can be shared under an SA or NC license separately. I’ll check with my lawyer
Nice. I’m not intimately familiar with the legal ins & outs of CC licenses, but I thought it might be worth looking into.
