I started this topic because I have a lot of project ideas ill probably never do or at least I won’t get to them for a while so I thought I’d start posting them here for a kind of collective brain storm. Feel free to add to mine and add your own the more input we have the more we can all learn from each other.
So my first idea was one I posted on the what did you do with Vera today thread so I thought I’d start with that one
I was thinking of putting a magnetic reed switch like a door contact in the cabinet and making something that you activate the sink with your foot like the trash cans you open the lid by stepping on a pedal ill take a pic of the contact when I get to work
Ok I got another one already, I’m thinking it would be cool to have a single virtual dimmer switch assigned to a room and when said dimmer is turned on to say 50% the Vera decides what path would be best at that moment to gain a 50% lights on status wether its opening the blinds,turning on a lamp, turning on the main light fixture, or a mix of all three and also have Vera poll this setting and adjust so as the sun goes down your blinds close and lights get brighter to maintain your 50% ambient light status what you guys think is this do able or has it been done
The light level idea is interesting… It’s doable but it would be very specific to your particular room; and you’d need a few light sensors to get the current amount of light. The algorithm will not be trivial to work out; you’ll want to build in a hysteresis and time delay to prevent blinking lights and curtains opening / closing every time a little cloud crosses the sun All in all it sounds like a nice little LUA project in its own right
Ok how about a remote starter on your car with spare remote wired to Vera and a scene that starts your car 10 mins before you leave for work mon through fri but only when the temp is below say 40* outside
I just found a Clapper sup[/sup] in an old box that I’d like to turn into a scene controller. Maybe one relay for when I clap on and another for when I clap off?
Ha that’s awesome the easiest way I can think of is 110vac relay that trips a zone on supported alarm panel or pins on an Arduino
On a similar note you could use arduino and a piezo to sense a secret nock or clap to activate scenes
Maybe" shave and a haircut" on your bathroom sink turns on vanity light.

Another piezo idea , door contact starts 5 min and 10 min timer and if the toilet flushes before the first one expires or after the second one expires then no scene is run but if after the first and before the second runs scene that turns on fart fan for 5 min
Seriously though, I would love to see a floor plan of my house and surrounding area, to allow me to visualise and tracks the movement of my family members (wife, kids, pets, relatives etc) and other items such as the cars, bike etc.
Then when you someone comes home it knows who it is, it personally welcomes you with a message, configures everything for you (lights, music) etc.
It can also tell you when ant relatives are approaching so it can give you a siren warning message and then turn off all the lights and close the curtains
I’m actually trying to get part way there with the Proximity Plugin idea I’m working on bit by bit…
All in all it sounds like a nice little LUA project in its own right
