yesterday, I tried to put some lua code in a scene which uses some code that I put in the Startup Lua.
I probably made a mistake in one or the other but I can’t find a way to get control back.
I do have a yellow bar stating Lua is taking to long when I go to the advanced settings (I’m on UI6)
I tried to unplug the vera, to reboot it via the yellow stuff and even tried to click on the request support without success.
To gather some more information on what was going wrong, i then took a look at the LuaUPnp.log file where I can see that
LuaUPnP terminated with Exit Code 245 just after trying to run my bad scene…
From that log, I can see :
Scene::RunScene running 13 EnvoisOpenSenSe <0x2bf09680>
LuaUPnP terminated with Exit Code: 245
LuaUPnP crash
caught signal 11 <0x2b48b680>
caught signal 11 <0x2c21d680>
my question now…
is there a way I can delete that scene or clean the startup lua via SSH ? or even better remotely via a specific URL?
As I’m not home, the remote solution would be great.

First thing you can try is to replace your user_data.json.lzo with one of your five user_data backups that are automatically made on your unit. You will find them in /etc/cmh/. The user_data.json.lzo is your last one. The other user_data.json.lzo.X where X is between 1 and 5 are the backups automatically made. Try renaming those files and hope one of them is a copy of your user_data before you made the scene.
If this doesn’t work, try to replace user_data with an old working user_data from a backup. Unzip an old backup on your computer. You will see the same folder structure as you have on the unit. Overwrite user_data on Vera with the one from the back-up.
If none of the above won’t work, please contact tech support to take care of your unit.

I managed to recover from the error…
copying the oldest lzo file did not solve the issue…
I had an old backup but with the previous firmware… I opened that one, copied the user_data.json.lzo file to the box and restarted it.
There was a bunch of errors (and I think that is normal…) but that allowed me to go to the tab where I managed to download a working backup from sunday…
I did the restore with the interface and since, all is working as previously.
Suggestion for MCV, it would be great if we could have links to the online backups from another interface (i mean not from the box…).
That way we could recover easily the backup files even if the box is unresponsive
I saw there are plenty of shell scripts that could be used directly via an ssh session which could help in that way as well (but those are probably reserved for use to the support team…)
I’ll now try to find what is wrong in my lua code and find a way to have the scene working.
I just bumped into this one also… I’m thankful for being curious and knowing the root password in advance. I “tailed” the log file, and it showed the lua error 245 Signal 11 error.

I used the advice above to rename the existing configuration, and then copied over the “bad” config with one of the backup files from last week. I could then reboot Vera successfully. I then restored yesterday’s backup (of the device/scene configuration?) which brought me back to yesterday.
The error 245 appears to be a “running out of memory” error (my coder found a reference somewhere). OK, so you have to be a bit careful when cut and pasting large chunks of LUUP code into your scenes :-).
I don’t think there were any ERRORS in my LUUP code, but once I had it working in one scene, I got ambitious and cut and pasted it into four others. It might have been too much.
After upgrading to UI7, I encounter exactly the same issue. Same crash code (245) and last line is a run scene.
I can probably not rely on backups because this scene is very old (this scene was working in UI5).
But I could try to edit the user_data.json file to suppress this scene or even all my scenes ?

I have a Vera Edge UI7 firmware version 1.7.1707, today it died and it was unable to load up the web GUI.
I followed these instructions above and uploaded a backup file and now the web GUI is back OK.
The crash happened when I was trying to add an association group to a Fibaro Dimmer 2 module.
And now whenever I try to add this new association group Vera dies again.
Also yesterday at the suggestion of Vera support, I added a new scene to run every 30 minutes to Poll a Temperature sensor device we have been having problems with.
Several forum threads seem to suggest that scenes like this can also cause this problem ?

This shouldn’t happen, a scene that poll a value once X minutes should be ok. I will need to see the code for it.

This is something that need to be investigated. Next time it happens, please contact tech support. They need to take some logs from your unit and forward this issue on our side. Please also send me an email and I will discuss with them. This seems to be a backend issue and the right people needs to debug this.
