Hi all experts,
I’m starting to play with some new devices… I bought a TKB68 on/off module (who supposed to be also repeater), and a couple pf battery operated modules: AeonLabs 4in1 sensor and AeonLabs Door/windows sensor.
When I configure all of them together from VeraLite, all of them were included, and configured… even more… I can see on each battery operated device the 2 neighbors as follows… where neighbor #1 is vera, and neighbor #2 is TKB module, as repeater (see attached capture)…
Now, Once I move the sensor where its supposed to be installed (out of vera direct coverage radio) and near to the TKB68 acting as repeater… NOTHING HAPPENS…
I’ve read several post detailing the HEAL process or the REPAIR procedure… I’ve been triying for 2 days in a raw… NO SUCCESS… of course I feel really frustraded… :-\
Now, my questions are:
a) In theory, vera runs a HEAL process each 24 hrs to accomodate the network… (including neighbors update). Is it true?
b) If I’ve included the battery operated sensors just beside vera and then move… do they recognize those changes?
c) If battery operated devices (sensors mainly) are in sleep mode… when they will realize it the location changes?
d) If battery operated devices were moved, how vera, repeater and devices adjust their power?
e) Should I include battery operated devices, at final positions instead of “beside” vera?
f) how can I trace/log the routing packets from vera to the devices? is the vera log able to record those interactions?
g) Is there any graphical view of routing nodes inside z-wave network?
sorry if there are too much questions… but I need to understand how it works… before I get mad…

Yes. By default Vera runs a heal at 2:00am whenever there are broken routes or unreachable devices in Vera’s database

Yes. The battery operated devices will notice new or missing neighbors. Vera will recognize that it can no longer reach the device by the same route when it polls the device, or it will see neighbor and signal strength changes when it successfully polls the device. In the case of your sensor, with a 720 second wake up interval, Vera will poll the device every ~12 minutes.
c) If battery operated devices (sensors mainly) are in sleep mode.. when they will realize it the location changes?

Vera does not adjust their radio frequency power, if that is what you mean. Vera will recalculate the routes needed to reach the device. This is part of the source routed behavior of Z-Wave networks. The source device decides on the best route to reach a device node.
e) Should I include battery operated devices, at final positions instead of "beside" vera?
It depends. I prefer to include and configure them close to Vera. However, when they are relocated, they may be unreachable. A Z-Wave network with full coverage will figure it all out after a while. But, if coverage is incomplete, the relocated node could be isolated from the rest of the network and be completely unreachable.

The above answers should give you a basic understanding as well as an idea of what you need to search for to learn more about Vera's routing. Having answered your questions, I can almost guarantee you that your issue is due to having such a small Z-Wave network and your devices being too far away from Vera. To fix this, you need to move Vera closer to your devices or add more intermediate nodes that are powered and not battery operated(battery operated nodes do not route).
Almost all issues related to signal quality and routing are best resolved by adding intermediate Z-Wave nodes.
Thx zwaver. U r a monster of knowledge! I’ll exclude my battery operated sensors from z-wave network and then I’ll include them again close to my repeater node (TKB plugin module)… make sense?

I can’t tell if it will work or not, but it’s a plan that’s worth trying and easy enough. It should at least get your routing set properly, but your sensor’s final location may be too far from the TKB plugin module leaving it isolated.
This post and diagram may better explain my meaning.
