Controlling Underfloor Electric Heating in 5 Zones

I’ve been looking for a solution to control underfloor electric heating with my Vera3, after reading this thread http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,8870.0.html I started to look into the Heatmiser range of products, I would have liked to use WiFi thermostats but it appears that Heatmiser don’t make an underfloor WiFi product at this time, so I’ve narrowed it down to two network thermostats.

12v Network Floor Heating Programmable Room Thermostat - Heatmiser PRT-EN
12v Network Touchscreen Floor Heating Thermostat - Heatmiser PRT-ENTS

My system will be setup into 5 zones, I will use one of the above thermostats in each zone to control the temperature.

What I don’t understand is how the thermostats will interface into my network can anyone suggest the a solution?

I’m based in the UK, if that makes a difference!!

Thanks

I’m starting to think Z-Wave wan’t the right choice! I can’t seem to find much support in the UK and there are very few products compared to the US, will this ever improve I wonder!

:frowning:

There’s a fair amount of Z-wave products for the European market, have a look here: http://zwave-products.co.uk It’s true that when it comes to HVAC, the choices available in Europe are very limited. In your case, your best bet would be hoping that someone gets around to creating a HeatMiser plug-in for Vera.

Whether or not Z-wave is the right choice depends on what your goal is. If it’s just controlling your heating, then there’s probably little point in going with Z-wave. If you want a full, integrated home automation solution and control your lights, locks, and sensors as well, then I think Z-wave is a viable choice.

There is a straight forward way to control the temperature for these zones.
We have the similar setup and resolved it by using 5 battery operated Everspring Temp/Humidity sensors.

The Temp and humidity sensor reports periodically info to Vera. Over there, we have a periodic scene that reads the temperature and decides to turn on / off and a z-wave micro-switch. (Aeon Labs of Fibaro).

The ultimate solution is to use a virtual thermostat on Vera (I still have to find someone who created such a device) and allow users to set the desired temperature for each zone using the iPad or Android device.

Hope that helps

Correct, we also control our heating in our summer house using the Fibaro switches and we have quickly grown to love our Z-Wave system which seems to expand pretty quick when You first get a hang of it.

Another grest thing is that we also get notifications if the humidity rises above a certain level which indicates a blown waterpipe which we have tried in the past.

We bought all our devices from Etotal IntelliHouse at http://www.etotal.eu and I think there is a lot to choose from.
