At home I have a recently installed Honeywell G2 Alarm, with hardwired sensors that were already installed when we moved in.
I’d love to connect the alarm system to my Vera z-wave network so that I could, for example, monitor the alarm or use the alarm PIR sensors to trigger lights etc.
Is this do-able?
Would love to hear of any experiences of doing this before I experiment with it.
It doesn’t look like either the ad2usb or envisalink are compatible with this panel. might have to change the panel to a ademco vista 15p or 20p. the keypads also look to be different and may need to be replaced as well? are all the sensors hardwired or do you have wireless sensors as well? if you do have wireless they may not be compatible with the vista series panels.
According to the Honeywell spec sheet for this panel, there are two G2 models - the G2-20 and the G2-44. The G2-44 has an ECP bus and is compatible with the 6160 Alpha Keypad.
So, the G2-44 panel should be compatible with an ECP device that emulates a 6160 Alpha keypad, such as the AD2USB, EVL3, etc.
Both panels have an RS-485 bus. All of it’s native “Galaxy” peripherals connect to the RS-485 bus… So you should be able to get a (fairly) common and (fairly) inexpensive USB to RS-485 converter and have full access to the devices RS-485 protocol bus.
There is also a Honeywell G2-A228 RS-232 adapter available that will allow you to connect to the panel.
However, once you manage to get the panel to connected to vera (or a PC), you will need to determine the communication/control protocol that is used. It MAY be the same protocol as is used by Vista RS-232 (which already has a vera plugin), or it may not. I could not locate any documentation for the “Galaxy” protocol. If the protocol is different, you will need to write your own plugin (or adapt an existing plugin).
Strangely… This series of panels seems to be a UK/EU only product line…
