Have a look at alsteon. It is a plugin that supports a better insteon integration into Vera.

The IOLinc is basically two devices in one. There is a sensor component that can be used to determine if the garage door is open/closed, and there is a contact closure that can be used to control other devices.

Since the IOLinc is pretty simplistic, it can work with any garage door opener that uses a contact closure to control the door behavior. This covers the majority of home garage doors out there. (If the control in your garage is wired directly to the opener, and there are two wires, it is likely that it will work. If it is wireless, then you will need to check your manual.)

The one hangup that people seem to have is getting the IOLinc in to ‘momentary C’ mode. If you can’t get it in this mode, it isn’t the end of the world, you just have to do some extra tricks to get it to behave how you want. I don’t have the control component of my IOLinc wired up, so you’ll want to look around the forum to find posts from others who have done it.

Also, keep in mind that the Insteon support in the Vera leaves a LOT to be desired. It is very minimal. However, the IOLinc support seems to be okay.
