Communication error with your Vera.

I keep getting the error, “Communication error with your Vera”, when trying to access the control link when logged into FindVera. Vera is working properly and has worked remotely for many months now. What is going on? I haven’t made any network changes recently, but I’ve been receiving this message for weeks now.

I’ve gotten this a few times, usually after my zwave dongle freezes, and I have to pull it out, and reboot the whole vera. It’s not reconnecting correctly to findvera. If you go into the findvera.com config section, and change password, it reconnects.

But I’ve not been able to keep my vera up longer than 10 hours with this new “improved” ZWave Dongle. The old one would at least stay up for a couple days. . .

I could be wrong, but I don’t think its the dongle. I think its the Findvera.com website.

I’ve had my Vera for about a year now and still using the original toggle that came with it. Vera isn’t locked up since it responds to events and internally to the web client. Just not externally.

Found something else that isn’t working…

I thought that since findvera.com isn’t working for me, I went into “User” and enable the “Require a username and password to access Vera from within my home network” so I could setup a port forward on my router to remote in. After enabling the feature, Vera refuses to accept my password. I tried both the user defined in the Users section and findvera.com’s user as well.

I ended up having to ssh into my unit and restoring a backup of the /etc directory in order to regain access locally.

I have had my Vera for about a month now, and aside from being a little slow, it was worked as advertised. until 2 days ago. I have a rental property in another state and use the vera to monitor the hvac, supply a secure wifi connection to my renters, and to program the schlage lock. Yesterday I tried to log into findvera, and I couldn’t access my unit. I received the message “communication error with your vera”. the Wifi stopped working, but I’m still getting notifications. Does anyone have any ideas? can I reset the unit remotely?

I’m having the same problems… I just got the unit and set it up last night with all the Z-Wave stuff, etc… and it’s all working. The unit shows connectivity to the internet and it looks like when I tried to back it up it backed it up on the findvera.com webiste. But I can’t access it from findvera.com at all… ???

Looks like when I log directly into the unit, it’s communicating to the internet as it checks version level, etc.

Are these problems normal with this unit/service/technology…? If so, it’s not going to be worth keeping if it’s not going to be reliable.

Please help… there’s such a short section for troubleshooting with findvera.com, it really was useless.

Anyone with any ideas…???

Thanks!

Ive seen this posted several place but there does not seem to be any response I can find or an explaination why it might happen.

I just had the same problem and submited a ticket…everything works perfectly locally but I get a communications error when using Findvera.com…and going to control option.

I purchased SQ remote and it is terrific…but without Findvera I can’t get to it when away from my house.

Maybe it is a MCV server problem I’ll let you know if I hear back from MCV on the Trouble ticket.

I have my vera set to DHCP and if I reboot it always picks up another IP does anyone use a static IP for there Vera?
