I have been getting “Communication error while retrieving local database”. I submitted this to tech support about 10 days ago; I did receive a reply yesterday which said I should copy my backup from find vera, go into the advanced tab and restore. Problem one is I cannot get to the advanced tab with this error condition unless someone advises me of another way; also although I have now copied the oldest backup that may not be a good backup because of the length of time since the request, is tech support able to retrieve anolder backup that may not be displayed?
My system has been inoperative for the past ten days…
Sorry to hear about your problem that does not seem to be very uncommon. I had to face the same problem - opened the case awaiting reply but I resolved the problem.
After the upgrade of MCV box I started to get errors and several attempts to fix made it worse, in my case. I did a reset by double clicking the black button and let Vera reset and take time to discover the devices and configure them. Fortunately (in my case again) I did not have to restore and I got everything back but took almost an hour.
This solution worked for me and treat this as a suggestion only. Hope that this will solve your problem.

Thank you for the suggestion, (I did read your posting about that) however, the unit is at a remote location so I can’t get to the reset button, also I have a Schlage lock in the system which complicates the re-install as it is a ‘secure device’; if I could restore from backup that would be great!

I just tried a firmware upgrade to .988 and now I am having this exact problem. I tried clearing the browser cache, still no joy. Any suggestions would be really appreciated since I leave my vacation home this Sunday. Thanks
Update: I pressed the black button on the back of the Vera1 twice and was able to get into the Vera, but it would not restore my backup. So I downgraded to .979 which then allowed me to load my backup configuration. I then upgraded to .988 and all seems to be well. Now, I’m going to try and figure out this Sq. Connect app.
Its really pathetic. The users on this forum are more helpful than the so called MCV tech support. They don’t even acknowledge your trouble ticket. These guys need to spend a little time on other manufacturer’s forum and get a clue.
mbushell,
I don’t know if you’ve been able to resolve this issue yet, I hope that you have, but in case you have not had any luck, it took me five tries before it finally worked. I can’t actually tell you what I did that made the difference other than being persistent. I was not able to reach anyone at MCV tech support (Nothing new there) so I decided to keep at it till it worked. If you are able to get the firmware loaded however, give it a day or two before you build everything back up to make sure it is stable. There is no consistent behavior and that’s why we are all experiencing similar but not 100% identical problems. Like I said it took five uploads before it became stable although now I can’t use SQ Remote, but this is a work in progress and as Danny Glover’s character used to say in Lethal Weapons "I’m getting too old for this sh!$#…
In the first week I had my Vera, I had to start from scratch about 2 or 3 times as I had a similar thing where I’d set everything up and then come back a day or so later to find everything had gone back to default for no reason! I just always figured it was something I’d not done correctly, or almost like it had restored a blank backup on its own.
I’ve since never had this happen in over 8 months luckily, and even if it did happen, then I’m more prepared with backups etc. I’ve bricked it myself a few times but thats another story
