"communication error" problem after using Luup

Hi,

I spoke too soon about the goodness of .979. It seemed stable so I started trying out the LUUP interface. I just hit it maybe 10 times with a HTTP user_data2 request. How Vera stopped responding to anything. On reboot it gets stuck on the infamous “communication error while retrieving local database” error.

Here is a screenshot: Skitch | Evernote

So I think my Vera is bricked ? Anyway it may help us if MCV can tell us what that error really means?
One guess is that vera is having problem responding to large data request (since the user_data2 results in a large response going back to the caller, and eventually manage to corrupt the local database on vera? That of course is pretty scary, since the user_data request is a read only request. One thread trying to read the database and another one trying to update it status? An exception on the read aborted the write?

Anyway what are my options? factory reset?

BTW more info: I am only using the vera in local network mode, and it is not used as a router.

P.K.

Hi,

Can you please send a trouble report from your Vera unit? Use the link in the red box shown below.

I will try that next time I hit this.

This is what I did yesterday:

  • I did a factory reset (using double clicking button at back of unit).
  • unit restarted, since I use it in my existing network, it found a good IP using DHCP
  • I got to the dashboard, only to see the same error (communication error…)
  • I factory reset again
  • I got the same error, BUT
  • I left the unit for a long time and went back, and surprisingly it started up ok.
  • I reloaded from a saved config
  • Now the unit is working

Of course I still want to try the HTTP requests again. I will do that and see if the box “crashes” again and report the error.

Until then though – can you share any thoughts of the meaning of that error? It will help me help you guys isolate the situation.

Thanks,
P.K.

This vary almost for every Vera. That’s why I’m asking you to send the trouble report if/when it happens.

I just got this one also on .979. I send in the trouble report. In the mean time i will try a factory reset, if I can’t think of anything else. :frowning:

Hi,

RolfS, every Vera backs up automatically its config files if you have findvera.com service activated. A way to try to repair if something’s wrong, is to restore one of those backups. You can find them under Settings link in your findvera.com account.
