Do any of you guys have idea for things to automate in my college dorm room? I have 2 lamps in here a couple of fans and a tv… not sure how to automate these things yet but i think they probably could be. If anyone has any ideas or how to get started please let me know! Thanks a lot!!!
It’s been awhile(not that long! Really?) since I was in college, but I’m assuming that they don’t allow you to change the switches and receptacles. If that’s the case, I think your best bet will be plugin modules such as the GE/Jasco 45603 Appliance Module and the GE/Jasco 45602 Dimmer Module. You could even use a GE/Jasco 45601 Remote Controller for basic control, while starting out, without the higher cost of a Vera Lite or Vera 3, though you will sacrifice scheduling, programmability, complex conditions and triggers, etc.
But is there really need or even desire for automation in a dorm room? I remember other “interests” when I was there.
P.S. Even a fully automated dorm room will not gain you romantic interests. Use parties and beer for that.
Since when did that ever stop anyone? Not that I am recommending this course of action, just sayin’…

Heh… the best course of action in this scenario is ensuring your room mate is gone for the evening
