Clean upgrade without have to unpair/pair all devices?

Hi all,

I want to do a fresh install of the latest firmware on my VeraEdge but without re-pairing all my devices. Is this possible? Can I upgrade, reset to defaults and then somehow restore the paired devices? Is this what backup/restore z-wave network does?

Thanks.

If you do an upgrade there is no need to repair unpair etc, simply select "keep my current settings and configuration " this will update your system to latest and all devices should still be paired in your Zwave network . If it knocks out devices or configs simply go to settings/ backup and restore Zwave network from the latest back that had it.

Let me clarify a little.
There are TWO parts to an Upgrade.

  1. The Z-Wave mesh of devices … A Z-Wave device is NOT a Vera Device … but they are associated.
  2. The Vera Devices. Here you have one or more Vera Devices … that are associated with a Z-Wave device.
Also plugins are implemented as Vera Devices.

If you want to have a FRESH install without learning all the devices. Then:

  1. Do a FULL upgrade.
This will restore (1) and (2) above.
  2. Do a Factory Reset
This will wipe the information for (2) above … but leave (1).

This will leave you in the state like having a NEW configuration but AFTER you have include all of your devices.
When Vera Restarts after the config … it will CREATE NEW Vera Devices to attach to the Z-Wave devices.
You will have to configure the Vera Devices, i.e. Assign them to a room, give them a name, and other Vera Specific settings.

The only way to reset the Z-Wave mesh is to change the House ID on the Z-Wave chip. If you do that, followed by a factory reset than you are virtually equivalent to a new Vera Device. In this case you will have to have EACH device that was previously connected to the Z-Wave network be UN-PAIRED followed by a PAIR operation to use the devices again. They do NOT have to be UN-PAIRED before disconnecting them the previous Z-Wave House ID. But you will NOT be able to pair them to a NEW House ID until you UN-PAIR them.

Thank you for such a great response! Gave me exactly what I was looking. I always wanted to do a fresh install to see if it would help work out the kinks in my setup but always dreaded having to repair all my devices.
